Thumbs up New owner of a 07 RX8

Hello everyone,

I recent purchased a 2007 RX8 and couldn't be happier...well, perhaps I could be a little bit happier, IF it would idle. I believe it is a base model (no navi or leather). It is a 6spd. The previous own left it abandon at a local shop after having a newer engine installed along with a new clutch. and spark plugs. The car has sat for quite some time which could account for the idle issue it has. I've done my due diligence as far as educating myself. MAF cleaning, the idle relearn procedure and the basics...everything short of pulling the plugs and doing a compression test. I'll ask for help in the tech section. But for now I would like to say "hey" and thanks for putting together what looks and reads like an awesome forum. Now to dive into some rotary newbie videos!!

Welcome!
Idle issues after engine replacement aren't uncommon, people miswire injectors or leave vacuum leaks during installation. Good places to start there.
Is everything stock?

Yes, everything is stock. I have my suspicions that its the ignition system (wires coils and plugs) or maybe even a clogged cat?? I am going to check the wiring for the injectors Loki, your input is most appreciated!!

The car runs and drives well, it just hates to idle once it reaches temp...and by that I mean as soon as the temp gauge starts to move idle drops and it stalls out. I seriously doubt its compression related because it fires right back up like a champ.

Any OBD codes?
It's not the cat if it drives fine, but something killed that first engine so may as well check it.

There were codes initially, but because it had sat for such a long time I wrote them off as bogus because they have not returned after clearing them.

I did write them down however...it was quite a list:
P0172, P2097, P0300, P0410, and P0411.
Lean codes and a miss fire code...also air injection system, I believe is what they were.

I'll have a chance to drive it again today. Going to stretch it's legs a bit to see if those codes come back.

My first drive with the car was no joke...a 200 mile drive from Tampa to Jacksonville...I did stop along the way to confirm that she would fire up when hot and there wasn't an issue (just anxiety...lol). It fired up and continued the journey.
