A new owner in need!

Hello all

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to view the thread.

On 15th December I became the proud owner of a 2007 RX8 PZ. The car is in great condition and drove like a dream.

Unfortunately, several days ago, the car started losing intermittently losing power whilst driving and the yellow engine warning light started flashing. A day or so later, the light came on permanently and the power drop has become more regular.

I've read through a number of posts on the forum to try and ascertain what the issue might be, but as a new member, the abundance of information is a little overwhelming. It seems the issue could be caused by any number of things, so in an attempt to at least establish the area of the issue, I've ordered the Prosteruk OBDII OBD2 EOBD U581 Diagnostic Code Scanner which should be arriving tomorrow.

Prosteruk OBDII OBD2 EOBD U581 Diagnostic Code Scanner - Car Engine Fault Reader CAN BUS Scan Tool: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories Prosteruk OBDII OBD2 EOBD U581 Diagnostic Code Scanner - Car Engine Fault Reader CAN BUS Scan Tool: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

In the interim, I have three questions;

1.) Do you think the vehicle is still safe to drive
2.) From the very brief description I've given of the issues, any ideas what it may be?
3.) Can anybody recommend a decent RX8 specialist near me (Haywards Heath, West Sussex) who may be able to take a look at the car and give it a once over?

Thank you once again to all of you who've read this post and for any help you can send my way.

I would not drive it like that. Flashing light is a misfire. Excess fuel may then be going through the cat, which will damge it. Clogged cat is a possible cause of power loss, and can damage the engine.

Wise move getting a code scanner. Too many people with problems don't bother getting codes read before coming here. Once you've read the codes I'm sure folks here who know a lot more than I do will be able to help.

Welcome to the rotary world and rx8club. Sorry that you hit such a big bump so early in your ownership.

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly Ken and for the advice.

I'm gutted I've hit this issue so early on, but I'm determined to make the relationship work.

I'll post again tomorrow once I've got the results from the code scanner. This may sound like a stupid question but where can I find a list of the codes? Or does a list come with the scanner? Like I said, I'm new to this.

Thanks Ken.

Search google like this

Site:rx8club.com xxxx

Replace the xxxx for whatever you want to find.

Flashing cel is always a misfire.

Cat damage will come quickly and is likely. Id check that very first before you run it any more. Its a matter of lifting the car and pulling 3 bolts. They can be trouble so give them a good shot of penetrating oil and let them sit a bit. Look up pics of the cat theres plenty around.

It should take a hour or so to actually check it and put it back together. Depending on bolt trouble.

RX-8 codes are in this post in the Series I Tech Forum:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...n-guide-26291/

The scanner is likely to come with a list of generic codes. If you come back with the codes, there are folks here who know their meaning more than any official list.

Follow legalinpoo's advice about searching. Two reasons: the search engine built into this site is not very good, and info on other sites is not particularly reliable.
