Hi all. Just thought I'd introduce myself. Picked up a yellow '04 8 a couple weeks ago. I own a 2010 speed3 as my summer daily already, so this is my second Mazda and first wankel! Got it stupid cheap, not running. After de flooding the engine I was able to get it running, and fairly well I must say. Power steering was also not working, cleaned the connections and swapped the fuse and it was good to go. I should also mention this car is strictly to be used on the track. Car is gutted, leaving the 2 front seats and dash. Pretty much it haha. I gave the car a shakedown yesterday at a local AutoX event. Did fairly well. Car has 186k kms. Seems fairly tight.

Future mods: acquire a spare diff, and weld it up.
Sell the 2 front stock, all black leather, seats for a pair of sparcos
Find a decent set of adjustable coilovers

Car came with an "Xpower" 3" cat back exhaust. Seems pretty rare. This will be going, and a straight pipe will be used in place
And a mishimoto aluminum rad. The rest being all stock.

Cheers,

See Ya''ll on the boards!

Welcome! Sounds like you know your way around the car already.

What kind of tracking do you have in mind?

I participate in as many Auto X events as i can. probably 6 this past summer, just in Peterborough. I aslo have done many open lapping days at Canadian Tire Motorsport park with my speed. I want to try my hand at drifting now. Extremely challenging, and a heck of alot of fun. steep learning curve, but im coming hahaha.

P.S. Where is the best spot on the forum to find out what rear diffs are interchangeable with the 8's? Im needing to find an open diff, as id like to weld it. do many people weld the factory limited slip?

I have lots to learn on this platform, not familiar with it yet haha
