New owner with a question (xenon headlights)

Hi all,

I'm proud new owner of 2004 red RX8 with 53k miles on. No starting issues hot or cold and fires right up. I have a couple of questions !

A previous owner fitted a VIP hid conversion kit. Can i remove this and go back to standard as i'm not sure if the aim is too low or what but, can't see ***** all while driving at night unless full beam is on.

I'll try and post some pics of this beauty when i can.

Thanks,

I'm not sure. When you open the bonnet you can see VIPHID conversion kit plugged in to the headlights and the units themselves just cable tied to other cables. Can find them on Ebay for £30 so i assume it's an add on. The high beams are halogens

Well I doubt it came with factory Xenons, so just get a better kit or go back to stock halogens.

That's what I'm thinking just go back to stock. Is it just remove the old harness ,bulbs etc and fit halogens in?

Depends on how creative the previous owner was with the installation. If all the original parts are still there, yes. I'm not sure if those retrofits require the bulb holder to change, so you might need to visit a junkyard or ebay for replacement parts for those.

If you have factory HIDs, they should have a big plastic cover for the low beams that warn you about high voltage, etc. The factory HID bulbs are D2S, btw.

If you have stock halogen, then use a set of high-quality halogen bulbs, or try retrofitting the factory HID headlights onto your car. My old Accord had halogen bulbs, and my RX-8's HID is a definite improvement over them. Much easier to avoid them stupid deer now.
