i recently got a flat on one of my tires. i bought my 8 used, and i have no key to get off the security lug-nut. i know i can buy a key from a dealership, but the closest one is 40 minutes away. any suggestions?

Well, there are the common methods to remove a lug key:
- Appropriate sized sock hammered onto the lug key until it has enough grip to turn it
- Freeze it until it's brittle and rap it to shatter it
- Torch it off
- Cut it off

Or contact McGard (http://www.mcgard.com/), who makes our lug keys, and see fit they have your VIN on file (they usually do) and you can get a new lug key for $40 or so. Takes time to ship in.

They would just do the same thing, plus add markup and figure out a way to add labor

I currently own a 2004 rx8 automatic with 50k miles that I am looking to sell cuz i want a manual and also am unsure about the reliability of the auto's engine. I have found many rx8's that I am interested in, one of them being a 2005 rx8 w/ 28k miles. It has 18" koenigs and a greddy cat-back exhaust system, the only downside in my mind is that it is turbocharged. I do not know much about force inducting the rotary engine and am fairly new to cars in general so I do not know much about the risks of purchasing a car with a turbo in it. Is it worth me even looking at the car or should I just stay with the rx8 I have and not risk getting rid of my car for a problem???

Hello.
Quite new to this Club. Read thru the guide for new/potential users. I have just paid for a used Mazda Rx8 Manual ( 5 Spd ) 2006. After looking thru the inspection report which came out clean, I noticed that this person has not changed oil for about 7000 k's after it was due. Its been 10 months since the last change. When I did a test drive, the engine sounded very smooth.

Now, question is, how far can the damage be done to the engine since the oil hasn't been changed. Obviously, As soon as i get the car in my hand, The first thing I am about to do is to change the oil

Is there something I should be inspecting to find out any potential damages from not changing oil ?

You are fine. The only risk is if you have the oil light on because the oil is too low. Mazda actually has an acceptable range for "normal" driving of 7,500 miles, or 12,000km between oil changes. Even the heavy duty driving specified is 5,000 miles or about 8,300km.

We still recommend more frequent changes than this, because oils start losing their viscosity past around 2,500 - 3,000 miles (4,100-5,000km) in our engine, but someone else's changes frequency isn't something to worry about at this point.

I am new to the rx8 club, and purchased my first mazda rx8. It is a 2004 6speed, with 48,000miles on it. Had only 2 owners and was very well taken care of! I just wondering if anyone can tell me what can I do to keep it in that good of a shape? like oil, etc.

Hey there,my first post here as Im planning to buy a 2007 Mazda Rx8.The car has 13k km on it so doesn't sound like much.What i wanted to know was apart from changing the oil regularly and premium fuel is there a possibility that the car would just not start one day.I know about the flooding issue but my cousin scared me saying youll get it and one day it just won't start.Any such issues on a 2007 model too ? i read they're supposed to be improved compared with 030405 models.Thanks

Avenger, try reading up on the first page of this thread. It specifically addresses common problems, including the flooding issue and engine failure story. It should help you understand what you are getting into.


In short, yes, there is a possibility that it just might not start one day.

But then, if it does that, it's most likely your fault, either because you drained the battery or ignored the ignition or let it run out of gas

But those are also possible with most other cars as well.

You used two terms(or groups of words) in your post that would make that rather difficult to answer. "general issues" and "completely sorted out"

So now that guy is asking too much for his manual,so i have been forced to look elsewhere l.Saw an 06 auto in Galaxy Grey today with Beige interior and piano black accents.The question is,should i get an auto just because the manual is a little bit pricey ? Is the manual well worth it ? I have no issues with a stick.

The only reason to get an automatic RX-8 is if you have a specific problem with manual. For example things like foot/hip/leg/knee issues that make a clutch painful, crazy traffic that is constantly stop-and-go, etc...

If you at all accept and/or enjoy manual transmission, there is a DEFINITE advantage over the auto. In power, durability, and sheer fun. You lose more than your average car when you opt for an automatic.

Sure, plenty of people enjoy their automatics, I'm not bashing them. But the driving really is quite different.

actually as far as performance it doesnt take much to catch up to manuals...i track/autoX with several 8s in the area and i usually post better times than the majority of them with my auto
as they said though the driving experience is very different but as far as performance and realibility(6port) you dont lose much

Yes that's what i thought too.It had red stitching around the corners as well,so must be a special edition.I've got another question,there's a 07 Kuro which i saw with the same guy it has 19k km on it.That's all good but i think its been tampered with cause 19k km is very little for that car.Is there any particular way on an Rx by which i can figure if the mileage is original or not ? Please let me know,thank you.

It's original mileage unless there is reason to believe that it isn't.

Turning back the mileage on modern cars isn't something that is easy to accomplish.

Another owner just picked up a 2006 with 6,000 miles on it a couple days ago. These cars tend to be garaged and/or weekend only cars more than your average commuter car.

what about those with stand alone ECU... heard they can reset the mileage?

There are very few stand alone evidence that can run the renesis, and they are all very costly and it is very obvious under the hood, not to mention the other stuff that wouldnt work or would be generating error lights on the dash.

I really wouldnt worry about it.

Alot of cars that come here have their mileage figures reset or so is the opinion anyway.Its so confusing i can't find a suitable car.
