There are 2 'buttons' on the instrument display. One cycles between the odometer and the trip odometers, holding it resets the trip odometer shown.

The other button like it, if you hold it down, it cycles between MPH/miles and KPM/kilometers. Select your preference.

Go to MazdaUSA.com, to the Owners section, create a free account with them, and download a PDF of your manual. It's free.

Meant to comment here sooner, but this thread helped me out immensely when I was shopping around. Long story short, I ended up going with a 2009 R3 instead of a 2008 Evo GSR.

All thanks to RIWWP :P

Great thread!

As a potential owner of an 05 RX8, I'm glad I took the time to read through this thread. Even though I have a knowledge, understanding, and experience with the rotary, it was nice to read up on the common things associated with owning an RX8.

I have a couple questions regarding the extended engine warranty, but before I post them, I want to read up some more, and see if I can't find my own answers!

Thanks, RX8Club!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, new to Mazda, and new to RX-8.
I live in Hong Kong and am currently driving a Honda S2000. I'm selling my ride and the RX-8 is a car I want to own next.
The info by RIWWP is very useful and answers most of the questions I have about this car.
Hoping to get one soon and contribute more in this forum!

Thanks!

dickers

Just picked up my 04 gt yesterday..... loving it! I've owned first gen 7's for the past 6 years and still have 2 (81 gs stock and a 85 gsl with a bridgeport) so I'mno stranger to the rotary's but i am a stranger to such a nice and luxurious ride!
The engine was replaced less than 5k ago on the 8 and the old owner was tring to tell me what kind of oil to keep in it but he couldnt remember what it was..... but he got it done at the dealer every time so does anyone know what its called? Id like to get some asap cause I know every 1000 miles or so it will go thru aprox 1 qt. he did say it was a synthetic that was made for the rotarys...... if anything i may just switch her over to royal purple. Thanks for all the future help everyone!

Don't turn this into yet another oil thread.
The most important thing no matter what oil you choose(and there are a million and one threads on the subject), is to change it religiously at 3k miles, and that's not even a guarantee. It's also important to keep all you oil receipts!!!
There are huge debates on synthetic vs. dino, pre-mix vs. non pre-mix. Do some searches and you shall see. I'm also sure it was cobered in the first few posts of this thread.

However........let me say this................Welcome to the addiction.

Haha thank you! And I've seen my fair share of oil debates on the rx7club site too but nothing like how you guys fight it out on here! lol I didnt wanna start another oil fight..... just wondering if someone knew what oil the dealer puts in the 8's or if someone knew of this oil straight from japan supposedly "made" for rotarys........... and NO FIGHTING ABUT THIS!!!

Dealers seem to use 5w20 dino. No indication of something different unless it's a completely unusual dealer.

Check the forum more on oil usage... Simply, just go with those that specify to be for rotary based engines and u'll be fine...

I'd love for you to find an oil commonly available for purchase that even has the word 'rotary' on it for any reason....

(hint, you won't)

Please learn more and post less before you turn into Monchie's twin brother.

Wow.... that the hostility I've been hearing about. lol The previous owner told me the oil that has been being used is called IDEMITSU 10W3O racing oil. I think im going for royal purple 5w30 after i've read a fair share of oil debates and threads. The writeup on royal purples site on rotary's is quite interesting and racing beat does suggest it themselves so thats good enough for me! And please once again this is just my opinion and thought to a previous Q I had so no harsh comment to each other! there plenty of other threads for that! lol

And you even knew that it would turn into a debate?
Don't start that, or you'll be marked as a troll.
You're already on the right path...

No hostility. I was just responding to the guy's post that is clearly showing he has no idea what in the f**k he is talking about. And I don't even care what his preference is between dino or synthetic or choice of weight.

He wouldn't have posted that if he has ever even looked at a bottle of oil, much less purchased one.

I have a problem with stupidity. Not with his or anyone else's oil choice.

I am refraining from replying in the interest of not turning the thread into an oil or behavioral debate.

Glad i could be of any help...

To be on the safe side for now, just go with Idemitsu oils...

Try to not indulge in the premix as of yet till u fully understand it's uses...

Not really. If she is willing to at least consider that she might have a wrong impression, then have her read the beginning of this thread.

Typically though, people that are that set against a particular idea for such a vague and inaccurate statement will hold that belief to the grave, and no amount of talking to them will change their mind.
