Make sure you check out the Engine Break-in procedure before Red-Lining a day.

I wish everyone's first post was that awesome!

Good luck Monty and welcome! Start an introduction thread with some pics when you get it. Sounds like a solid deal. :big_ok:

Technically it was a European Swallow was it not? However, I don't recall her name.

You mean the "there isn't one/follow these precautions" from the manual, or the "red line it/baby it" one from the web?

The only constant I can see in that debate is to not keep the RPMs constant.

One thing I don't see in this Newbie section is much talk about the spare tire (or lack thereof) I'll just have a can of fix-a-flat, but others might want to know about getting the mini spare (which is says to use in the manual, right after the part in bold letters where it says never use two different sized tires :-P )

That is the other great thing about this forum. When all the contradictory info gets confusing, there is USUALLY a consensus about what it the best to do.

Unless the topic is camber, oil, breakin, decarb, or gas mileage.

There are many variants of the engine breakin procedure out there, all are roughly "vary the RPMs", but no one has proven that there is an actual benefit if done, or a penalty if not. Most people pick one breakin process and do it anyway, because there is little cost to doing it, no penalty, and possible benefit, regardless of what theory camp you pitch your tent in.

Hey all. Long time member but only recently an owner! Finally picked up a mint-condition Velocity Red '07 with 42,000KM (~26K miles) on the clock. Bought from, serviced at, and traded-in at the same dealer. This car was definitely well taken care of it and not a scratch or nick anywhere in sight.

Needless to say, after 10 years of "waiting", I'm stoked!

So after months and months of lurking around as a guest and absorbing as much information as I can, I have come to respect this forum for what can be learned and for all the members that contribute to its dynamic.

I only got the sense to create a username several weeks ago but have kept my newbie mouth shut the whole time and continued to read before opening my mouth. I'm still learning more every day and reading about anything and everything I can as much as I can.

Yesterday I joined the RX8 legion. 05 metallic velocity red 6spd sport with 59k. I would say a superb body. No dent or dings anywhere and the paint is very clean and showing no fade or wear. Original motor. All service records accounted for from local Mazda dealership. Oil always changed within 3000 miles. She runs very sound and smooth. Feeling no power loss anywhere @ full throttle although I have only been up to 7k rpm (it's so hard to get up to 8-9k rpm and still be within speed limit !) I love this gearbox ! Engagement is smooth and solid.

I'll quit my rant now, I'm just stoked to be here finally.

Proud to humbly and fiercely represent the rotary ways. Thanks for everything everyone, cheers !

p.s I apologize for poor quality pictures! Both taken with phone. Gas station photo my car was filthy since I picked her up car after the dealerships detail shop closed. Photo on driveway was taken after I washed her. We had a long talk and bonded. I think this is going to be a great relationship.

Hello there!

I searched around for information about mileage differences between the High- and Low power models.
The table that's on first page is for the High Power (~230 HP) model, but are there considerable differences in mileage if you choose the lesser (here ~192 HP) version?

Potential Owner with questions

I'm going to be purchasing my first car in May and I would really like to buy an rx8, probably a 2005 or 2006... automatic, I don't know how to shift and I don't want to learn! lol.. i've been looking at them for a while now, and I've been told it's a lot of maintenance.. but i'm just wondering exactly what will need to be done and how often? I'm fine with paying for routine maitenance and stuff as long as it's not too crazy, and I'm alright with insurance costs as long as it's no more than 475.00$ a month, I will have my drivers education class, and i'm also a female, and will have an alarm installed to lower it as much as possible... but some people have said DO NOT purchase an RX8 because the horsepower is low for automatics, or there are a lot of problems with the 2004-2006 versions? but i'm not looking for something super fast or anything, I just personally like the way the car looks, and has everything i'mlooking for in a car, but if it's just going to cause me alot of problems I want to know ahead of time so I don't go ahead with buying it..... since this is my first car, my budget is about 11 000$ 12 grand max.. but i'd like something a little lower if possible that's still in good condition with not too high KM's... what is the average price I should pay for a 2005-2006 rx8?
I think that's all I want to know , and then i'll decide what I'll do

as the year draws to a close, most early model 8's will be out on their 8 year/160 000km warranty. I'd recommend an 06 and up, as most of the issues in the early models were addressed at that point.
However, you won't find 06+ for under $14k (and even that is a generous price).
Maintenance wise- as long as you can read and follow simple directions, the 8 is fairly easy to work on. Just follow the DIY's.

I purchased my 8 a while back in the beginning of this year and have just been in love since. I was originally thinking wrx but when i drove the 8 i had experienced a car handle like that and knew it was the car to get. I have been looking at this forum for a while for diy installs and other comments on performance parts. Just recently catback straight piped my car and since i now sound like a formula 1 in parking garages and tunnels i decided it was time to join

I recently acquired an '05 RX8 Shinka (manual trans)...my daughter's husband abandoned it AND the loan for it in their divorce. Thankfully, he didn't play with his toys, he stored them without allowing anyone else to touch them, so it's low-mileage and pristine! I had a sport coupe about 10 years ago and LOVED IT so agreed to take over the Mazda.

I am SO GLAD I did, what a great car! Got pulled over for doing nearly 100 the second week, I didn't even realize I was going that fast - the car is SO smooth and zippy. (didn't get a ticket, cop saw old broad in car and gave me a pass)

Anyway, I will be happy to utilize this forum to learn about my new 'road trip' car!

(Have to find an MP3/iPod cable as that AND the manuals were taken by ex-SIL!)

Nan

ps guess I'd better get a new starter since mine doesn't seem to have a lot of power. Already had to get new plugs as the daughter flooded it, lesson leaned!
