Driving the wall would be pretty cool...

I'm seeing your posts show up all over the place. I get that it's your first day here, but that means you should be reading more and posting a bit less. Doesn't take much work to see where to post things. I mean this as friendly advice, since you will get a pretty negative reaction if you persist in randomly posting stuff in the wrong threads (asking about regional stuff in 2 unrelated threads).

Just friendly advice from a moderator. Take some time and relax and read. We get the excitement, we really do. Just don't over-do it

Yup, I've driven through the western part of that range, Tonto National Forest I believe. Quite a lot of fun areas all through there.

It sounds like you are right on the edge between the Gulf forum (which has Texas) Gulf RX-8 Forum - RX8Club.com and the Mountain forum (which has New Mexico) Mountain Forum - RX8Club.com

Whichever is more appropriate for you, check through there to see what local discussion threads there are and start talking with other people local to you. Probably your best shot at finding other owners.

Yeah I have a thread on here from that trip. Some of my best memories are from that trip.

I averaged about 21,000 miles a year on my 8, with only about 7,000 per year of that from actual commuting. Most of the rest is from long distance trips. Did the ~400 miles between RI and MD about 60 times in 4 of those years, several trips farther north, several to OH, a couple to the Carolinas, etc...

The 8 only gets about 25-30 miles a week now, if that. My Mazdaspeed Miata gets the mileage rack up now.

Honestly, if you're paying those prices at Advance Auto, you're doing it wrong.

I just purchased the whole kit for my '11 Sport from them, and before tax, it came to $166.61. I broke it into 2 separate orders to take advantage of a $30 off and a $35 off coupon code for each order, and still have free shipping on both orders.

Installed all the bits last Sunday, and on Monday night, drove from Denver down to Las Vegas, NM to argue a speeding ticket I got down there a month before. Turns out the officer either tore up the ticket after I left a month ago, or he simply forgot to submit it, and didn't remember until I was at his state patrol office, talking to him directly. So I wound up driving back home Tuesday morning, very happy.

Oh, and I got 22 mpg the whole trip, with the cruise pretty much set to 78 mph.

What other things can I talk about?
Oh wait, this is the new owners thread.
No one cares about nearly 2 year owners in here.

Sorry.

BC.

Exclamation at to mt transmission swap

i have an 04 rx8 4 speed automatic with the recall engine swap that was put in oct of last year(should run good for another 10 years) ;and k&n typhoon intake system. the car originially belonged to my mom(she used to own 260z,rx7,and 92' supra)and she is now passing the car down to me. ive driven the car extensively since i was 13 and i cant imagine being without it. the new engine runs smooth has yet to give any sign of trouble. should i abandon the engine and trade for a mt rx8? or transmission swap from AT to MT keeping my brandnew engine?

there was no engine recall and the odds of your engine actually being new are very slim. you most likely got a reman engine built from both new and used parts. they are a crap shoot

question

hey guys . i'm new to the forum. i've had my 2009 rx-8 R3 for almost 3 years. bought it in december of 2009. I have 46k miles on it now and so far had my O2 censor, my driver door window motor and my coolant censor go out. I keep my car in the best condition i can. always top off the oil when needed and do my oil changes. And always worm up my car before turning it off.

i've been reading all about the rx-8 here and all but just wanted to check with you all to see what to expect the next thing to break or fail. I don't know too much on how to work on the rx-8 but really want to learn how too so it won't be too expecive to fix it.

Lately when i'm driving and am stopped at a red light my revs keep on twitching going under 1000 rpms almost to the point of shutting off and then gose a bit past 100 rpms and back and forth. but i rev it past 7000 rpms and then it stops and then it comes and goes . does that mean there is a problem with the engine?

Seems i have 46k miles on it what should i check to see whats ok or not ok?

I'm sorry for maybe some stupid questions but just want to make sure i'm taking the best care for my car.
thanks.

did you replace the coils plugs and wires? that should have been done at 30k.

sometimes retards at the dealership dont do this, i had a dealership say to me that i didnt need to change the coils plugs and wires until 90k+ miles.

how are your brakes? mine were shot at around 35k miles.

how are your tires? I got my car at 30k miles with shitty as crap nexen all season tires, so im assuming the stock tires were killed and swapped.

When I started to premix I noticed my rpms would fluctuate when idling, adjusted the ratio of my premix and it went away.

Great thread - my only comment on the first few posts -
1) I would remove the "cost of steering rack failure - $2000 part" You just trying to scare people? Yes it costs that much to replace, but as far as I know (and i followed these treads pretty closely), only 2 people have ever had "steering rack failure" that wasn't fixed by simply replacing the $86 power steering cable.

2) I've never head anyone use the terms "quick" and "fast" used with specific definitions the way you talk about. With everyone I've ever spoken with, they are used entirely synonymously

^ +1

Only an idiot would pay $2k for a rack at the dealer, when you can get re-manufactured steering racks on eBay for around $600.

About the same as people paying $85 per coil when you can get them from reputable vendors for around $25-$30 each.

Elysium, it's a bit more common than that, otherwise there wouldn't be an aftermarket source for them. There have also been plenty of dealer replacement racks, though I agree that it is usually entirely unjustified.

Quick and fast do indeed mean different things, even if the people you talk to aren't aware of it

Fast is your terminal speed. Quick is how long it takes to get you there.

Test Drove a RX-8 today and loved it, hopefully I will be joining this community soon. Went through pretty much this whole thread yesterday and found it extremely helpful today when I was looking at it. For reference its a 2004, manual, with 87k on it for $7,500. One owner (he just bought a mazdaspeed miata) with a stack of maintenance records, new engine and cat less than a 1,000 miles ago.

If everything goes to plan next time I will be taking it to a dealer for a compression test & whatnot and will be talking money.

just wanted to say thanks for all this info being so easily available

Isn't that a good deal? I bought one similar condition but at 110k with new engine with $9k, but that was a year and half ago...I guess that's about right then.

This makes me sad - I still owe $11,000 on my 2005 Black Cherry Shinka with 60,000 miles on it....

Nan
