ABS can handle any change, as long as the same change is made on all 4 wheels. ABS / TCS / DSC problems show up when there is a difference in the total circumference of one, two, or three wheels as compared to the remaining wheels. The axles then spin at a different rate, and the controller can't figure out what is going on.
If evenly matched on all 4 wheels, the total circumference only matters with speedometer and odometer accuracy as far as electronics/mechanics are concerned. Ride height, ride comfort, handling, and steering feel are also affected, but those are nearly all subjective based on what someone wants.

im going sunday to buy my first rx8 04' model. im excited and nervous @ the same time due to the talk of so called "engine fail, flooding". ive done some research and am intrigued by the car, it suites me. fuel and oil are normal things you have to pay having a vehicle thats a given so i dont care to much about that. is there anything I should listen, feel, watch for when I test drive. this one actually has coolant light on as said beforw in a post. But I found and researched it and got a website to replace coolant tank for $130 w/ sensor.

All he has to do is take his time and slit the hose around the nipple on two side and peel away the hose gently. The nipple placement was a stupid design in the first place.

All cars cost but not all cars make you feel alive. That's why I brought one.

Has anyone ever seen an Rx8 with a shiftgate that looks like the picture i attached? I thought they looked really cool and I was wondering if there was someway I could get one for my rx8.

New Rx8 owner
Hey guys. I just picked up a 2004 na automatic and its giving me absolutely hell. I hooked my scanner up to it and the only codes is throws is misfire on the first rotor. Thats not the problem. It burned almost 3 quarts of oil in 10 minutes of driving it. No leaks at all. Only 57k miles. Need some ideas. Ive had two rx7s but this is my first 8. Need help.

I need new tires bad but am confused on what size to put on the stock rims.
Can i get some opinions on the feel/efficiency etc. of the difference between 225/45/18's and 225/40/18's ? would it cause any problems?
The roads where i live are not GREAT but not horrible (some potholes).
Also i am looking at getting the Continental extreme contactDWS tire

Do you know if original engine?
Frankly, I would also remove spark plugs and have a look, if they are badly oiled up, then I would suggest you could have worn out oil control rings or a fractured OCR in #1.
Only way of rectifying is an engine rebuild or reman.
I am going on the info you have supplied as you are a previous rotary owner, as far as OCR, they are all the same for all rotaries (13B, Renesis, 10A,12A).

Im putting the new plugs in later this week and running a compression test when i do that. It smokes like a train warming up but then its warm no smoke at all but still burning all the oil

Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com
Plug in the stock sizes on the left, then play with sizes on the right. It's easy to see exactly what will be different. Speedometer differences are entirely based on the total circumference of the tire, not the width of the tire or the diameter of the wheel. A rolling circumference of 6 feet is a rolling circumference of 6 feet, regardless of if it's OEM size, race rubber on 17s, a tin pot lid, a steel drum, or a sausage.

Hello all! Just bought my gorg mazda rx8 and love it but yesterday the light malfunction light has stayed on the whole time and I rang my local mazda specialist who said that it is to do with the suspension. It also drifts to the left if I let the steering wheel go for a sec. I bought it with a 6mth cover with the garage so am taking it back next week. Do u think thia damage could have been done when I drive it on bumpy roads? My drive is 1/2 mile long and full of pot holes etc and im up and down it alot. Just wondering if it could have hit something...

Well and update on some of my problems i have been having. Got new tires installed but still have an occasional ABS/TSC/Brake lights. But on the note of my guages problem how they were jumping and misreading, i replaced the cluster and all works great. Now i just need to figure out my problem with the ABS system

Life After 8K RPM....
On the 8th month with my 8, running strong. I just replaced the plugs, coils, wires, and air filter at 230k kms. My air box was gunked up with oil, sand and what not. I was wondering is it normal in our cars. However, i used a ton of brake cleaner to get rid of the oil and sand. Any suggestions what should I do to prevent it from happening again or its nothing to worry about. thanks guys

The oil is from burping into the intake. I assume you have a 2004 or 2005, in which case a proper catch can will help quite a bit. The rest is all from outside the car, and it's why you have a filter there You WANT it caught in the air box, and not ingested into the engine.

Hey guys! just got my 04 RX8 yesterday. drove it around and it was great.
but then i left my GF's house, started the car, turned the wheel a little....and then it started freaking out. steering wheel shaking back and forth like crazy for 3-4 seconds, and then the power steering stopped working, and the tire pressure light came on. I filled the tires up (second time in 5 hours) and it didnt fix the problem. My friend said maybe since the tires are new, they havent settled in yet and i should check them over the next couple days to see if it continues.(all 4 tires are losing pressure)
as for the power steering, does this seem like a serious problem? i was gonna try and clean the wires and stuff, but i figured i'll just go to local rotary mechanic and get everything checked out, because lets face it, certified pre owned means absolutely nothing =/

I have done some extensive research on this site about what is currently going wrong with my 2006 RX-8 w/73K miles. And while I have found similar incidents I haven't actually found an exact match, IMO.
This all started with my intent to fix my 2nd gear grind. After reading online and here I thought starting with the transmission fluid was the best start. So I went to Pep boys to get it changed,(I am not that confident with cars to do it my self/equipped). The guy there suggested not to get it done(a different story, not relevant). As I was leaving I sat in my car for a couple of minutes with the radio which drained my battery (it drained very fast, i know sitting in the car would drain it, but not that fast).
Here is where the real trouble began: I asked the guys to give me a jump and we popped the hood and first off the coolant sensor plug was unattached ( I had just changed the oil recently myself, and I am pretty confident it was plugged in) so we plugged it back in. Next we noticed that what I believe is a vaccuum seal right behind the accordion of the MAF was disconnected (the piece was broken).
They didnt have any replacement so I went to the local Mazda dealer. As I drove there the coolant light was on for the first time. Still trying to fix the transmission problem, they recc. a new trans, and a new battery mine had 300(cant remember units). Which they also believe explained the hesitant startup when cold. They believed the coolant light would shut off after I explained that i just noticed it unplugged. They fixed the vacccum intake and i went on my way holding off on any transmission work.
I had to drive back from school that same day (which was an hour and a half away). Everything was fine, coolant light still on, but temp gauge read fine. Then the classic misfire symptoms that I have read on these forums started to appear ( I have never had this type of problem until this day). I kept on my route as I was only 30 mins away in the middle of nowhere. Literally a minute away from my house I begin to notice a little bit of smoke coming out from the vents, ( I had the heat turned off to pull it from the engine just in case) Again no irregular engine temp. The car stalled out and I barely made it back.
I took a seperate car to autozone anticipating that it may be the battery. Replaced battery and the car still remained in bad shape. Engine sounded different, was shaking and a noticable burning smell. Took the car to autozone and code read multiple misfires. Then the car would not start. Tried deflooding procedure to no avail.
Car is currently awaiting towing to dealership. I realize it may seem like a standard misfire problem, but the fact that it all just happened after the battery was giving up and happened out of the blue makes me think otherwise. Could there perhaps be a problem with the electrical system and a possible reboot might fix that? Also the coolant and vacuum seal problem all happening at the same time make me skeptical as well. Please provide any knowledge that may be of assistance. Thanks.
