Hi Guys,

From Hertfordshire UK.
Just picked up my first RX8 in the best color (Personally)

Any tips for when I pull the engine ?

Thanks

Make sure the engine is the problem before you pull it, or your new engine will inherit whatever is actually the problem. What are the symptoms and have you had a compression test?

yeah, low compression and it starts okay ish ... but the idle is the worst ive ever seen.
presumed its not gearbox or anything ... that swapping out the engine for the better one i have on the floor in the garage was the way forward?
complete new power plant

If it was as simple as just replacing the engine I'd say go for it... but its not. You would need to change out much more than just the engine to get it to work. The easiest way to get this car going again is to put another Renesis in it. Unless the spare engine you have is a series 1 Renesis it won't work. When pulling the engine, make sure you keep good track of all the parts, nuts and bolts. Will make reinstalling much easier.

Any particular symptoms? When I had a beyond low compression engine with it would bounce around at 750rpm for a couple seconds and then back up to 1250rpm for a couple of seconds and repeat, note I had basically a brand new car surrounding the engine.

Other normal low compression symptoms included, hot starts, low power, dying at idle.
