I am a new owner of a 2005 RX-8 that needs some TLC. However, I am not new to the rotary world. I have owner a dozen or more RX-7's over the years. I am always looking for punishment I guess as I am always reviving the RX-7's that others would just part out.
So, the 05 RX-8 is no different and I picked it up for cheap. Previous owner did not really take care of it so it needs some interior/exterior touch ups and the engine had a coolant seal give a few years ago. Love the car and what it can be except for the wheels. Once I can post in the classified section I plan to try and find some stock RX-8 wheels and get rid of the ones on it right now.
In the garage I have a 91 RX-7 that is undergoing a cammed LS3/T56 swap. Just about everything on the car has been refurbished or replaced so once it is complete I can have a worry free car that is practically new.
I got the 8 cleaned up after sitting in one spot for around 3 years with the previous owner. I was only able to get to the outside this weekend and I will clean up the inside soon.
The car was parked because it smokes like a pack of chain smokers. I tinkered with it this weekend so I pulled the plugs and they looked good besides appearing to saturated with fuel. I went through the deflooding process and the car stats up pretty quick. The smoke didn't smell sweet as if it was a coolant seal, so the search continues.
Yeah, it was pretty filthy but it will get a better cleaning later.
Worked on the car more today and it appears that the engine is in fact blown. I would guess the oil control rings or something of that nature. Tons of smoke and oil will literally leak out of the exhaust manifold.
When I got the car the oil was low so I topped it off before running it again. It smoked before and after so I believe it is time for a rebuild.
