mine is 76K right now. i just got it a few days ago and intend to change the plugs, wires, oil, oil filter, cabin air filter. After all that im going to get a compression test. that will tell me what mods my car will be able to handle without changing much. id be sure to check all the hoses, tires of course, and go ahead and change all the fluids period. hope u enjoy the car!! this is my second 8, i love it best of any car, and i have a mustang that does the quarter mile in 11 sec. says alot about mazda and the design and engineering of these cars.

Ha! I have an RX-7 and an RX-8 with 180k miles and four engines between the two cars! A rotary with mileage that high is a rarity! I hope you got a compression test and a hell of a deal!

CA sry for the lag but..

Yes ! Original Engine ! The previous owner kept a detailed log of maintenance and upkeep. He was a aircraft engineer.
So i got this amazing 8 for 3,500 with 214,000 miles on it. It just recently had it's front brakes replaced, new windshield , new clutch, new fly wheel, new oil seals and bearings, and new plugs.
I'm super excited about it!

So I have some basic questions such as; What oil do you recommend at this point in my 8's long life, filter, coolant, and potential new exhaust. Also i was wondering about installing fog lights. Tips, pointers, reliable brands? Let me know please!

Anyways any things to really look out for? I just replace the tail light due to the fish tank effect we all have experienced.

A reciprocating engine with mileage that high is a rarity, too.

I have a 2005 and only have 40k miles, and you have 214k miles with original engine...wow! I think you broke the record for the most miles on a rotary...lol

My factory engine lost compression at 167,305 miles. You could be the owner with the highest mileage on it's original engine in CA who actually came close to ELF with more than 247,000 miles as of last year. Take a picture of your odometer and post it here: The 200,000 Mile Club.

You should ask the previos owner what he did as far as up-keep and at this point, as stated above, consider getting a compression check with MAZDA. In the meantime, you can start by reading the first few pages in these helpful threads:

Congratulations, you got an 8!

I agree with Grace Excel. You should talk to the previous owner about his upkeep methods and/or study the maintenance records that came with the car. There might be something to learn in there.

I sure am interested to know how the car was driven, what oil and filter at what intervals, premix or not, decarbon or not, if so, using what, etc....

Damn 214k.... wow. I wanna see the odometer lol. I recently replaced mine at 69,987 miles.... but I didn't expect it to make it to even that with how the previous owner poorly mistreated her
