New RX8 Owner

New RX8 Owner
Hello everyone. My name is Sam. New Rx8 owner here. I had previously owned a turbo first gen RX7 for almost 12 years. My turbo FB was my build and my baby. Till..... A friend of mine got this 04 R3 RX8.
He got the car with low compression (of course), for a steal. He promptly pulled the engine and street ported it and rebuilt it with all RA super seals and Teflon seals. This thing runs awesome now.
I found myself spending more time around the RX8 then I had ever before. I joked with my friend about possibly trading straight up between the turbo FB and the RX8.
Needless to say, I am now the proud owner of this car. The previous owner had taken very good car of this car. The exterior and interior is immaculate. And, I'm happy to have it now.

OP,
The 2004 Model RX8 can NOT be an R3.
The "R3" version was released in 2009.
Can you post of some pictures of your 8? Any other details?
Im sitting here wondering though, why out of the 5 prior responses, four of which i KNOW, knew better. No one, even after having their chuckle could point the OP in the correct direction? It's a community people, he doesn't know obviously so have your chuckle but tell him.
Thanks
Travis

I wasn't sure about the option "class" this car is. I thought my friend said it was a "R3". I'm still learning about the RX8s. Untill I found myself spending time around one, I had no desire to even be around the FE. I always considered the FE a waste of good rotary engine.
Most people who bought these cars new had no clue about the rotary and how to properly maintenance these cars. They were just "cool! It revs to 9200 rpms. And everytime I drive it, I'm going to make it hit rev limiter."
So, that "was" my general idea about the FE. That, and my 400 RWHP FB would murder most FEs.
Then my friend let me drive this RX8. I took it down a road that I had spin out in the FB. I was amazed at the handling and the linear power curve. No boost kicking in and throwing you out of control in a curve.
Now I own a FE. I love just driving this car. I don't care about the drag race at every stop light anymore.

The only wierd thing is when I first crank it up in the mornings, the idle goes up to about 2500 rpms then it will start idle jumping up and down for about a minute or two till the temp hand starts moving. Then it will idle at 12-15. When the temp gets up to about 1/3 then the idle will go to normal.
The other wierd thing is of you hold the cluth in it acts normal. Kinda reminds me of how the the S4s and S5s act if the TPS is out of range.
Any ideas?

The idle issue happened to me last winter too, not as cold this year.
I believe that while it's not 'normal', it happens and is not something to worry about.
I searched & asked about it with no clear cut answer.

I pulled the air box earlier and cleaned it, the K&N air filter, the mass air flow, and the throttle body. I also disconnected the battery while I was cleaning these parts. For some reason the was oil in the air box which didn't make any sense. I don't know if that will help, but I'll find out tomorrow I guess.

I use a cheap tranny funnel to avoid that.
Also, if you rely on someone else to do your oil changes, it would be a good idea to specify the oil amount you need.
Some 'Quickie Lube' places automatically put 5qts. in out of ignorance.
