MO New RX8 owner

Hi all....

Brand new to the RX8 club, so "Hi" ! Also, brand new to rotary engines, so please bare with me. I purchased a pretty nice 2004 RX8 with known engine problems. The previous owner indicated a loss of power before he parked it in 2014. In addition, he had it checked by a local mechanic friend of mine who indicated it could be a myriad of problems. While I respect his skill on domestics, I just don't know on rotary engines and don't want to guess. That said, I've got the car home and want to be very slow and meticulous with what I do, even if it takes a year or two. I've pulled the battery (as it was shot anyway). Now I want to drain all fluids and am looking for some insight on what, how and where (gas, oil, coolant, everything). Would some of you be so kind as to tell me where to start (probably fuel if any), as I want to start out right. The car is in real nice shape, but I want to do things right. Obviously the engine is going to be a big factor, but I want to start with "baby steps". Thanks, in advance, for any help !!

Further to sinkas' response, I suggest reading that same thread many many many times, until the info is understood.
Reading the "stickies" in most sub-forums is also recommended, as they provide most insight.

What are your plans with the car?
What's the mileage on it?
You mentioned "known Engine Problems", "Loss of Power" have you gotten it compression tested?
What kind of engine problems?
Provide more information so more experienced users can chime in with their expert advice.

Cheers,

As-far-as my plans with the car are concerned, I don't yet know. I need to educate myself further with the engines and their issues. Mileage is at 122,000. With-regard-to "known" engine problems, the previous owner said it lost power while driving it and he barely got it home. Supposedly it will start (which I don't plan on trying at this point), until the "education" part gets MUCH better. The guy who owned it took a different approach to fixing the problem, thinking it was a clogged catalytic converter (which it wasn't). At this point there are just too many variables that I need to learn about way before I think about fixing anything. It's in awful good shape (short of the engine). I haven't done a compression check, as I just got it......STILL A LOT TO LEARN......all I to really want to do right now is mainly get the old gas drained out of it, but I can't seem to get an answer on that procedure. Just getting a lot of other helpful suggestions, but really that's down the road. Thanks
