New rx8 owner, having some issues with car starting back up when hot

I recently bought an 05 rx8 with 109,000 miles, manual transmission. I'm having some issues with the car starting back up once it's warm. I changed the spark plugs and plan on changing the coils this week also to see if that helps. But I just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions or idea of what it might be. Thanks

hot start issues are a sign of low compression. it could be coils, small battery/starter too. did you get a compression test?

I haven't gotten a compression test done yet, but I plan on doing it this week. The only thing that's leading me not to believe that it's compression is the fact that if I let the car sit for about 10 minutes it starts right back up. Or if I turn off the car from the key it starts back up even when warm. The only time the car gives me trouble is when the car shuts off when I stall or if the car shuts off on me when I'm driving. I've also noticed the car is idling really low sometimes and the rpm's tend to jump around sometimes

cleaning the ess, maf and 20 brake stomp may help with idle if they are dirty but get a comp test. you really should have got it before you bought the car

Well for the price I got the car, I can't really complain. But I'll try those things and make sure I get that comp test done as soon as I can take it somewhere. But I mean other than that the car runs pretty good. But thanks for the advice. I appreciate the help

You won't be saying that if you have to get an engine built. Plus you won't be able to drive it.
A good price tag doesn't always mean a smart choice

Idk almost sounds like the e shafts sensor acting up. But rpms jumping around sounds like the coil's I hope you get the 8 up and healthy again.

OK i bought an 04 automatic with 87000 and have been expediting hot start issues I have changed the coils wires and next is the plugs my battery is 640 CCA the car will start if u do 3 6 second cranks the starter gets faster as I do the cranks I have done seafoam on the intake but not the bottom end. Can anyone give me advice on this I'm fixing to get a car fax to be able to see when the engine was replaced. I also belive my front o2 sensor is going bad I noticed if I take the battery cable off and rest the ecu it will start right up even when hot. Any advice would be wonderful I love my 8 and will never trade her in she is mine till the stars fall. Oh and a rebuild and porting are on my list of to do if anyone knows anyone in Kentucky that's good with rotary.

Not too sure why you're posting your questions in this thread. Start your own, or stay on topic.

I recommend you read the new and potential owners sticky found at the top of the new members forum. It will outline many of the basics on how to work the forum and how to operate/ understand your rx8.

Then I recommend shooting over to the troubleshooting subforum and read the starting issues sticky.
Follow the troubleshooting guide, and if you're still experiencing issues, report them in your own thread.

One I post here because it's a starting issue thread 2 people on here seam to bitch about starting multiple threads about the same thing 3 I have been trouble shooting and following that list except I think the problemost isn't on that list it doesn't list o2 sensors as part of that problem.

1 & 2. Fair enough.
3. When did you change the wires/ coils? It's recommended to change wires, coils and plugs at the same time. And until you change (or at least test and verify) the plugs, you're chasing smoke.

For O2 sensor, there are multiple threads on how to check it. Usually, O2 sensor has nothing to do with starting issues, which is why you won't find it there.

This is why we have a dedicated thread and checklist, so members can go step by step without missing any details. When you don't, you start jumping to conclusions, which makes your issue harder to deal with.
If you still have issues, then you can report back what you have verified.

Changed the wires and coils last week changing plugs tomorrow had cash issues. The front o2 controls the air fule mixture right well if i rest the car it returns to the factory air fule mixture and not the rich setting I'm guessing it's on. the only code its throwing is I think p0138 wich goes to the front o2 sensor. It takes me a 1/4 of a tank to go 70 miles is that a bought right on my milage. While the car is hot if I don't reset it it struggles bad to start but once reset it's fine even runs a little better till the cel kicks on and it's just the one code that's coming up on the obd.

P0138 is a rear O2 sensor issue: O2 Sensor (P0138) CEL Code? So I'd look into replacing it, as well.

1/4 tank to go 70 miles is about ballpark for my mileage in a 70/30 highway/city scenario.

As far as people in KY that can do rotaries, I'm unsure. But RotaryResurrection is in Tennessee, near Knoxville.
