New user to the website and soon to be owner of an RX-8!

Hello everyone!

Been checking out this forum ever since I've set my sights on an RX-8! I've checked the new owners guide, the tips, fixes and solutions to the main problems that can happen, so I can say that I'm prepared!

I'll be getting the car this Monday and I can already tell it's worth every penny!

As for the DIY fixes to the car, I'm a mechanic in the learning atm. Online help and the aid of my grandpa is all I honestly need! I'll be making in-depth examinations of the car when it enters the garage.

I hope you guys don't hate me! I may be a young RX-8 owner, but I'm not going to treat the car badly! I'll make sure to take care of it with all my ability, after all, I couldn't have gotten a better car~!

Thanks for reading, please invite the new guy (me) into the RX8 family with open arms!!!

Prior to purchase, ensure you check the engine compression using a rotary specific compression tester.

What year/ model/ transmission are you hoping to get?

And the members won't hate you, as long as you don't make them/ us hate you keep up with your research prior to any modifications and enjoy the car!!

Post pics if/ when you get it!

Will do! I wonder if I can get a tester like that where I live..hmm.

2006 for year! Standard model I believe, and Manumatic or Tiptronic as most would say.

I will do as much research as I can, I love this car, haha! :D

I'll post pics A.S.A.P on Monday!

Why are you going with auto? At least you're looking for 06+. The earlier models weren't and still aren't the best or most reliable (though that's a subjective debate).

Where are you located? Many Mazda dealerships have access to rotary compression testers.

The manual models were out of the price range and was 04 series. I was aware of the 06 being the better choice, doing research on the website beforehand
I'm located in Trinidad. And guess what? Found a dealership! The internet is awesome!
I'll be sure to get it tested soon and probably have the Cat gutted since we don't have emission laws here. Two main things I must do besides the optimal engine check.

Oh wait, we do have laws! But no one takes them seriously over here, don't know why. It's just how it is over here. Cars spewing smoke and all that stuff without a care in the world!

Things ARE different in each country Dx

LOL amazing! I'll make sure to drive her hard

Oil and coolant is essential, will make sure to make the most out of the engine while maintaining it at the same time!

By the way, have you ever gotten your engine swapped by chance? Or any drastic changes?

I plan to keep mine as stock as I've got it, just some stuff that will keep the overall power and efficiency at its best is the kind of stuff I like ^^

Looks nice, congrats. Was it repainted at some point though? The rear plastic trim is painted body colour and the RX8 sign on the trunk is weirdly spaced.

About the compression test... Usually you want to do that before you sign for the car, so you know you're not buying problems.

Thanks man! Apparently yeah, the owner did a paintjob, hence the black roof and shiny looks. I might repaint the trim in black, don't like the white so much.

As for the trunk, I gotta disagree! It's proportional to where the symbol should be! Must be the funny camera angle messin' with ya

Glad you like it though!

Got the garage cleaned for the new car. Boy was it in a mess! There was dirt and grime and yucky smelly stuff in some places. Thank goodness it's cleaned! Now I have more space to walk around the car and quite a dry area for tools. Concrete floor, very open. But I'm not complaining!

Now that I got some time with the car's appearance and upon close inspection, you're right. The rx8 symbol isn't proportional. Foolish me
I might get it back to its original position, and as for the white trim, I kinda like it!

The colored trim does grow on you a bit, but the problem is the trim parts that have been painted are prone to stone chips and also need to be able to flex and vibrate without cracking the paint, so while I doubt they used it, there are special paints for that purpose, otherwise it maybe begin to peel, crack and chip pretty shortly.

This was common practice when I was in Thailand to paint the lower trim panels with the wrong paint and it begins to look really nasty not too long after doing it and then it's a bitch to get it back to original unless you replace them altogether. Anyway enjoy it, looks nice, hopefully the compression test will show it is more then it's outwardly beauty.

True, I would agree. Hasn't been chipped so far but I might do some changes to it if I change my mind. I'm not too concerned about the compression test although i'll check it soon. Thanks for your input!

Congrats on your new purchase! Take good care of her. Make sure to watch the coolant temps. These cars tend to overheat in hot weather.
