No Spark after rebuild
Hi All,
Bought an '05 MT non runner
Charged the battery and was able to get it started
Had no compression in one rotor, so parked it for the winter
Pulled the engine, rebuilt and re-installed (approx one year later)
Wouldn't start and traced it to no spark, was throwing the P0336 code (ESS out of range)
Life got in the way (moved to a new house) so parked it for another winter
Finally got back to it a few weeks ago
Reset the ESS and the P03360 code has gone away, but still no spark, TACH does not move when cranking, though does move off it's dead stop infinitesimally
I hooked a scope up to the ESS input to the PCM and got a good clean signal
Checked the output to the leading coils and all I get are noise
I get a trigger event on the leading coils with IGN ON
No event with the trailing, so the PCM is at least 'awake'
Checked and verified the following grounds:
2 on pass firewall
2 on driver firewall
2 under airbox
2 on the block
block to chassis
all PCM grounds
Checked all wires for continuity
Checked and verified all fuses are good
Voltage to all modules is ~12.8V (close to Vbatt)
Fuel pump fuse has been pulled entire time
So what am I missing?
- did I miss a ground?
- seems unlikely the PCM has such a specific failure, doesn't it?
- Does the PCM need higher voltage?
- Does the PCM need any input besides ESS to trigger the coils?
ESS signal below
