Cool Not really new

hello everybody

this is the only place i can post since i have less then 10 posts but i have actually been a member since the beginning of 2011. i joined the group when i originally got my 2007 rx8 around that time. i never really did much posting but mainly lurked because i didn't feel like i had anything to bring to the table when it came to the car or modifications. well as time went on i ended up selling my rx8 got a promotion at work and decided that i would get a hummer. after owning the hummer for awhile i started to miss the whole sports car feel so i traded it in for a 2004 corvette. the vette was fun and got me hooked on a ls power plant but it did not last long due to the wife not being a fan of me saying "just put packing peanuts in the back and let the kid roll around" idea. so i lost the vette and now i currently own a 2012 silverado ltz. we love the truck and plan on keeping it.

the reason i am posting here is because i am now looking into potentially getting another RX8. i always find myself thinking about that car. the fun i had.

i have to buy from a dealer because i need to trade in my wife's car (she quit her job and wont go nowhere) and my 2002 mx5 POS. don't get me wrong i love the mx5 and its fun but i give that car hell daily because why not? lol i bought it for 3k so its my fun gas saver.

here is the car I am looking at
https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...0116/overview/

one issue is they cannot sell it due to the airbags.

I would like to get more involved with the forum and the people here even if i don't or cannot get the car.

to give a little background of myself i am a SSG in the United States Army and have been in for roughly 9 years and I am currently serving as a Army recruiter and i only have a year left as a recruiter (thank god) and will be moving to GA in a year.

look forward to the conversations.

Nice!! The R3 is a great car. Price and mileage seem to be a fair deal too. But with 70k miles, you're gonna wanna get a compression check!

Good luck man!

Good luck man!

Went out today to make a deposit on it and some dude made a deposit over the phone from North Carolina right before I got there

Dammit man

If I by some crazy luck I can get it. It is coming from a Mazda dealer so that's a plus.

just a quick question to anybody with car sales experience.

is that some sort of tactic?

you call in for a vehicle and find out that it is on the stop sale list (RX8 airbags) and they mention over the phone that if you put a refundable deposit down you will get first dibs, But when you show up and like what you see you are then told that somebody already put a deposit down and that you would be second in line. they even told me don't worry about the deposit until the other guy "flakes".

on one hand it sounds like its legit because they wouldn't take my deposit, but as a recruiter i also know that you want to create that desire which would set you up to pay more because "the first guy made this offer" type scenario and essentially creating a "Ghost bid"

as a army recruiter I'm selling something that will lock you in from 4-6 years without so much as a "test drive"

any insight into something like this?

I'd say just be firm, know what you want to pay for it going in, and don't go over that.

I don't really understand what you mean when you say "They can't sell it because of the airbags"?

If you are referring to the recall that only affected certain model series 1 cars. The series 2's were not affected by the airbag recall so that is moot in the case of this R3.

Oh and of course get a compression test. SHOW ME THE NUMBERS BABY!!!!

Compression test would be a absolute must but I'm pretty sure the airbag recall included all series 2 aswell?

UGH i was hoping i was wrong and there was something excluding the series 2.

i was about to call the dealer and throw a fit.

i cannot believe how hard it is to find a R3. if i cannot get this one the next best one comes from a used car dealership and its hard to speak with them over the phone. plus the car has about 120k miles on it so that makes me weary.

I'm a new owner myself and got a 2006 with 134k. As long as it was taken care of and you get the compression checked I wouldn't worry too much. And you can tell when a car was taken care of. Just make sure you know what's you're getting into. Even if the cars perfect you'll probably end up sinking a bit of $$ into it, more so if you end up with issues.

On another note, one of the other guys on the forum here is looking to sell his 2011 with 53k miles. It's not exactly close (judging from the car's location in your first post), but it might be worth checking out if you're not totally opposed to the distance.

well i was able to get the car this past monday!!!!!!! i so happy with it. there were some pros and cons with the whole deal.

couldn't work out the term for 72 months because the loan was not high enough.
and the compression test cam back with low numbers. they were upfront about it and did not try to conceal it.

because of the compression i was offerd a total of four options.

1. let them do the work on the car and have to deal with them selling it at a higher price after the repairs.

2. let them cover 3/4th of the price of a four year warranty and increase the price 1k

3. buy it with no warranty and just roll the dice.

4. let it go and move on.

i went with option 2. i have looked at 3 or 4 other R3's and this one was in much better condition and lower price than the others even with the warranty.

I am VERY happy with it and I am probably going to wait a month or two and take it to a different Mazda dealer and tell them that I am experiencing power loss and let them tell me i need a new engine and BAM use the warranty
