Have you checked your MAF sensor for signs of dirt, grease or oil? Throttle body is clean and not sticking? A can of carb cleaner could be all that's needed..
Adjusting your expectations is the biggest challenge most have entering the world of RX-8's. The power delivery is similar to the Honda K20/F20 engines; torque is fractional to overall HP, however the RPM carries it. They are quick but not fast and as there is never a significant change in the rate of power growth, being so smooth, it feels slower than it actually is.
Common things that affect power:
-Low compression
-Worn ignition system (May or may not present with detected)
-Clogged catalytic converter
-Stuck or inoperable intake valves/solenoids (including purge solenoid)
-Running rich or lean (usually do to leaking injectors, failing fuel pump, clogged air or fuel filter, worn/dirty MAF, worn o2 sensor, etc)
-ESS dirty or damaged (presents as high RPM consistency issues or high RPM power fall off)
-LIMP MODE (OMP failure, ESS error, etc)
Long story short:
-Determine if your expectations are what need adjustment instead of the car
-Get a compression test
-Check your damn OBDII codes
-Get more diagnostic data, not opinion to help determine your concern
With the ignition work you just performed, did you get new OEM coils, plugs and wires? New BHR or equivelent upgraded parts? Used parts? Or some third-party/VatoZone specials?
