OMG I can't with this car!
Okay so I have been dealing with trying to take car of my sons car while he is deployed. I am about ready to pull my hair out over it.
He changed his Belt tensioner pulley before he deployed. He told me to buy a torque wrench and tighten the bolt to manufacturers specifications. I did. Then the belt slipped off and made a ton of smoke. I turned off the engine, removed the pulley cleaned it all up and replaced it. The bolt that actually adds tension to the belt was BENT causing the pulley to lean in such a way the belt slipped.
Okay new bolt placed, everything tightened to specifications and now there is a definite "metal to metal noise" I need direction. Please!
Is there a spacer missing? What specifically could be making that noise in relation to this pulley?
I have enclosed pictures I took prior to placing new bolt. I took a video so y'all could hear the noise but have no idea how to upload it.
I'll post a link and hopefully that will work.

thanks in advance! Bent Bolt
Melted rubber on pulley
Bent bolt
Pulley with slipped belt
See how the pulley is leaning
What is this thing missing???

That belt only drives the AC compressor, so if you need to drive it, just take the belt off until you can get it looked at, you just won't have AC.
The last picture of everything assembled looks off to me. It looks like the belt is 1 tooth too far inboard, causing the belt to pop off the edge. Everything looks to be in place, so I cant really see if there is anything wrong from the picture. There is a possibility its just installed wrong.

It's been a while since I missed with that belt, could be wrong, but you don't use a torque wrench to tighten the adjustment bolt. You tighten it until the belt is at the correct tension (ideally using a belt tension gauge, but you can eyeball it). It's possible it bent because it was put under way too much tension, which would also have stretched the belt. And yes, in that last picture the belt is not on the main crank pulley correctly.

I did mine not too long ago, and S2 has the same system as S1.
Like Loki's diagrams show, the long bolt you bent is not the one you should use your torque wrench on. The one you should use the torque wrench on is the one in the middle of the pulley. Takes a bit of effort to break loose, so don't be afraid to use some elbow grease.
That long bolt you bent is actually the adjustment bolt, which you turn to make the pulley go up and down. This, in turn, adjusts the tension in the A/C belt.
So you should first loosen the bolt in the middle of the pully before you use a new long bolt.
Another thing I personally recommend is a V belt tension tool. Something like this will do:
This helps you get to the right amount of tension so the belt doesn't slip, but also doesn't put too much stress on it. Very nice and handy.

Thank you for your replies! I talked to my son tonight and he said that in between the pulley and the bracket there may have to be a spacer and he can't remember if he put one there. ( Little back story, he was in the middle of replacing the belts and had taken the pulley off when we had a house fire....lost everything that night. He left for the Army a few months after the fire while we were still displaced. He came home for a week before deployment and I insisted on AC if I was going to be driving his car. So he bought a pulley but wasn't sure what else he was missing because everything had burned on the work bench) I didn't torque the tensioner bolt just the one in the middle but he thinks the pressure may have been what bent the tensioner bolt.
I will buy that belt tensioner "thingy" once I find a new tensioner bolt. According to that diagram it does not have a part number so I'll check the hardware store for a matching metric bolt.
About the belt being on wrong...maybe after it slipped I didn't line it back up right. I will loosen everything up and give it a good college try again.
I really appreciate your help!

There are lots of members in Cali.
If you're so inclined, I'm sure one of them would gladly take a look at it for one of our service member's mother.

Okay so is anyone near Modesto or Stockton? I am in between the two. I would love for someone to take a look with me!! I really do have another question about this pulley/tensioner combo. Is there supposed a spacer between the pulley and bracket?
