PA Compression test from japan
Hello guys, I'm new to this forum, but I read it pretty much everyday since i fall in love with the 8... So, I'm planning on buy one soon, and as I live in japan but can't speak a single word of japanese yet, i thought you guys could help me..
I don't have that much money, so I'm looking for some 03~04 models. Here in Japan they cost about 3.5k US Dollars to 6k, so I'm trying to get one for 5k max, to have some spare money for maintenance.
Recently I found this one for 4k US Dollars, is a 03 model
Looks to be in good shape, ande here is the picture of the compression test but I cant tell if its great, good, ok or bad... can anyone help me figure out these numbers?
So, what do you guys think, Should I get it? this model is in good shape? The engine is ok?
ps: sorry for bad english, not my first language.

Damn, its loaded with navi.. What's the mileage on the car?
Seems like 6.8 and 6.9 compression values might be low. Wait for some more experienced users to chime in.
Also, find out how much it costs to rebuild a renisis in Japan, it should be much cheaper there than North America.

It passes once you normalize the compression higher, but it's only mediocre, not a "great engine".
It's also an automatic 4-port, so the highest risk configuration as well.

In my opinion you would do better to find a 6-port manual with good compression number, they are less at risk for engine problems than the 4-port automatics which have higher risks for carbon buildup and the resultant seal failures.

Where you at in Japan. Some places will still give you a warranty, and dealers still do certified used cars. Im in Dubai right now or I could help more. Im from Tochigi north of tokyo, but have friends all over Japan that could maybe give you some help.
FYI you could probably get something that still hitting 8kg, as many in Japan do a rebuild or new engine at 60k, and almost anywhere will give you a compression test. Also go to the kombini and get you a GOO and search there for cars in your area.

Thanks for the info guys, yeah, i know the 4 port automatic is risky, but I only have licesense to drive automatic cars here in Japan, and as I'm working non-stop, I don't think I'm going to have time to get the licesense to drive manual soon ): but is something I want to do in the future.
But I hear that there is a 6 port auto, is it much expensive? wich models come with this setup?
EDIT: I read in the new and potential owners topic that only the 2006-2008 had the 6 port AT, but I think they cost a little bit more than what I'm looking for
Thanks, I'm going to get a GOO today, and I'm searching at the Goo-Net as well!
I'm in Shizuoka, do you think I could get a nice rx8 hitting 8kg for ¥500.000? And do you have any ideia of how much the engine rebuild cost?

Man there should be stacks in that area. Check the Goo and Yahoo auction. I dont know what they charge for a reny but they wanted 6k for a new Mazda rebuild for my FD, and most places start around 280000 yen for the same 13brew. you might check yahoo for a rebuild as well, but im sure you can find a decent low mileage in that area for the right price.
I bought my FD for 800000 yen and it had Olins coils, wheels/tire, apexi intake and exaust, pod gauges, and some other stuff. I threw another 300000yen at it so me and Kumakubo could go drift it at Eibisu.
Also check with some of the smaller shops that have the net auction. There is a big one in shizoku that they could maybe take you to and buy from for a small fee.

I didn't knew that Yahoo auction, its reaaly great!! thanks!
Your FD sounds like a great car, I wish I could go drift when I learn japanese properly!
Oh, I dont know if its ok to talk about this here, but if its not asking much, do you think for that price I should look for other cars as well? I really love the looks of the 25GT, but is not a GT-R so I dont know.. and I feel like the 8 is safer, and the ensurance will be cheaper..
Anyway, I really apreciate your help! I'm going to start to look in Goo and Yahoo auction, hope that until the end of this month or next I will have my car! :D

Everything is rated on engine size in japan. From insurance to tax. The 1.3 will always be the cheaper, unless you get a kei car.
If your looking at Skylines then get the GTS-t its rear wheel and turbo. The FD will still pull a price more than the 8, but the 8 would be more practical for you. I know you can get fully built drift cars that are street legal for around your price.
Also dont forget you need to show proof of parking, its called a shakoshomei. Its proof you have a spot at either your apartment or you are renting a spot to park.

Yeah, luckly I have a nice spot here in my apartment!
May I ask you one more thing, as I dont read well in japanese, can u tell me what is the differences of price in the Goo-Net site? like this one
¥Þ¥Ä¥À £Ò£Ø¡Ý£¸ ¥Ù¡¼¥¹¥°¥ì¡¼¥É¡¡½ãÀµ£Ä£Ö£Ä¥Ê¥Ó¡¡¥*¥»¥Î¥ó¥Ø¥Ã¥É¥é¥¤ ¥È | £Ã£Ï£Ì£Ï£Ò¡Ç£Ó¡¡¥«¥é¡¼¥º¡¡£Ç£Ô¥¹¥Ý¡¼¥Ä¥«¡¼ÀìÌçŹ | Goo-netÃæ¸Å¼Ö¾ðÊó
why are 2 prices there? one in black, and one in red. The black price is affordable, the red is always a little bit expensive, what are the differences and why are 2?

Ok the black one is the price of the car. The red is the drive it off the lot price. So it has tax, and fees on it. The plates are good till next year June. It also doesn't have an inspection sheet, but you could ak for a compression test they might do it for free to sell the car.

By the way that red one has low mileage (around 23k miles) is clean as, and other than being an auto that car is pristine. I paid 8k for mine (in Dubai) with dents and scratches, and replaced about 3k in parts. 66 hundo for that is cheep.
