Planning to sell, looking for advice
Hi, another long time member short on posts.
I am planning to sell my '05 6MT white RX8 with 93500 miles. It has a few issues and I don't know if it is worth fixing them or not before selling it. The issues are -
Cracked windshield - can fix for $300.
Coolant reservoir sensor is flaky - sometimes comes on when engine is pushed but temp is good.
Brakes have slight shudder when braking at higher speeds, rotors need turning, likely a full front brake job.
A/C went out yesterday - Still checking it but think it is the compressor.
My question is whether it is worth fixing any/all of these issues before putting the car up for sale? It has the original engine and it still runs good, periodically red line it and it is happy up there.

Depends on how much you want to sell it for? Your asset is the good engine (if you can prove it with a compression test), so having no other problems puts you in a position to demand a premium over the other weak engine RX8s on the market. Coolant reservoir is cheap to replace if you DIY, so that would be a good move, IMO. Brakes are a wear item, I don't think you'll get bonus points for replacing them, unless they're completely finished. A/C could get expensive, I wouldn't expect to get money back on the sale for replacing the compressor.
If you just want to get rid of it, I'm sure someone will come along and pick it for cheap knowing the issues and fix them themselves.

Just put some 134a in and the A/C works now so it is a leak. Question is how bad and where but at least it is not a compressor replacement. I have not had a compression test done but it behaves the same as it always had so I am hoping the compression is still good.
On the coolant reservoir, I have seen comments that unless you are very careful you run the risk of breaking the nipple off of the radiator which would be very bad.

. I would sell the car to a knowledgeable rotary person and let them deal with the reservoir bottle and cooling system. You really won't get sale value back on an '05 if you have to replace the radiator.
Actual good compression test numbers would help sell the car. Minus those numbers you will have to find a buyer willing to take it on as a project car, for probably a lower price.

Taking it to a dealer for recall issues, mainly the airbags, tomorrow will see what they would give me for it. Right now I think I would take $1500 for it. Located in WA state and willing to drive some. Not sure it is worth the $ for the compression test, performance is still OK but that is not measured numbers.

Think about it, if you get a compression test and the engine turns out to be good, you can potentially sell the car for more than $1500.
