Exclamation Please HELP!! 04 6spd intermittent problems

Hi everyone! my name is Austin, I am new to being a member, but I have done a lot of reading on this site since I got my 8.... which brings me here now.
I have just gotten the car back yesterday from the shop (new clutch) I drove it about 80 miles or so, got off of the interstate and rolled in the throttle, and the car just fell on its face!! bogged down and shut off. while it was doing this I noticed the check engine light flashing.. the car started right back up but light stayed on and I had trouble the rest of the night with it falling on its face and bogging. hooked it up to scanner this morning and got the known by many "misfire" cylinder 2, I also got a "system to lean, bank 1" I deleted the codes.. and I have driven the car 40 miles today with no problem whatsoever... can anyone help me?? or know of someone on here who has had the same issue? I am leaning to the fuel pump. coils, plugs, and wires are all new with 1k on them... any help will be greatly appreciated. I have borrowed a scanner from a guy at work and I'm in the process of trying to data log. but if anyone has any numbers on the datastream I should be looking for to be out of wack, it would be of great help.

I have owned my 8 for two weeks... AND I REFUSE TO GIVE UP ON IT.

THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE.

-Austin

Check your plug wires at each end. I'd bet that one of them fell off, or is too loose. If not, then move to plugs, remove each one, inspect for failure, then reinstall it. There have been a few cases recently where the spark plug has failed from the center out, factory defect.

thank you for your response sir! I will look into that in the morning before I leave for work. BUT, I had a 92 Honda accord before this car that the fuel pump went out in and the things i'm experiencing are tit for tat.. if I could look at a data log chart of a good running 8 and compare to the numbers I'm seeing on my car I think I could pinpoint the problem or problems I'm having....
I know the two motors are completely different... but wouldn't a fuel problem (especially a pump) be almost identical???

Our fuel pump rarely splutters like that. When our fuel pump fails, the engine will abruptly shut off as the pump stops due to overheating. Then you will have to wait about 20 minutes (the time is pretty consistent) for the fuel pump to cool down in order for you to re-fire the car, at which point everything will act completely normal until it suddenly shuts off again due to an overheated fuel pump. If the fuel pump is failing in this way, demanding more power from the engine typically accelerates how fast it will overheat, and it is rare that it will shut off during low demand. (this also makes fuel pump failure extremely dangerous for our engine, since it will most likely shut down and cause a leak spike when a lean spike is most likely to cause detonation...engine goes boom)

The only other fuel pump failure that we see with any sort of regular occurance is a fuel pressure leak at the fuel pump, however this is almost always accompanied by a significant stench of fuel odor in the car (since the fuel pump is right under the rear seat, driver's side)

No, your symptoms don't fit fuel pump failure for the 8, but they do fit severe ignition failure. Since it was just replaced, it's likely not from old age, so probably something came loose or one of the parts you got was defective (or counterfeit, if you bought coils from ebay)

Clutch means pulled starter. That means disconnected battery or freaking sparks everywhere.

ECU might be learning engine. It takes a bit. If you have older ignition parts, it takes longer.

Step 1, with a cold engine, disconnect the batter for 20 minutes (or 20 brake stomp it). Then start it and let it sit. It will idle high, that is fine. It will slowly idle lower and lower. When it gets down below 1000 it may get rough. Either put your foot on the gas a tiny bit, or turn on the AC (higher programmed idle). Then think about coils, cleaning MAF, stuff like that.

Check the $100 thread in my signature for next steps.

Welcome, and good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Also ensure all your vaccume hoses on intake tubes are connected.. I had this issue after my clutch was replaced the guy broke one of the vaccume hose's little black plastic nipple. My car would start fine but stall at every stop.

thank you all for sharing your .02!! I did check coil connectors, wires, and plugs today. looked ok. I installed a new fuel pump, and there were bits and pieces of shiny metal flakes sitting in the bottom of the tank, the sock/strainer was completely black also. got all the metal out with a magnet... now waiting on radiator and hoses to get here (nipple for reservoir broke off)

I don't know if i made this completely clear.. but i was in the throttle when the problem arose, and in the throttle on the way home so i could make it back without paying a wrecker. the day after when i drove it, it was babied until i turned on my road and ran it to 7k. with no hiccups.

it only did it when i held it past 5/8ths throttle. scan tool showed me it was starving for fuel therefore the lean code and the misfire.. but then again, i could be totally wrong. we will see Tuesday when i get the radiator put in... but until then i will be reading.

i am going to clean the ecs sensor, the maf sensor, the throttle body, etc..

thanks again for everyones input, has me wanting to do and check some more things out

Metal in the fuel tank is scary, and not something that would ever be classed as "common" Hopefully your filters caught it all, and none of it made it to the engine, or lodged in the fuel lines.
