PLEASE HELP - cold start. Loud whine and Chime noise Video incl

Hey all. I own a 06 jap type s 8. Last 3 months or so when I start her up I get a loud whine. Engine fires then the whine persists until after 30sec. You hear whatever disengage and the whine ends. I'm assuming the starter?.. If so. Why would the starter stay engaged for 30sec?

If it's not my starter and it's something more severe then I need to know asap. Been worried she's going to go on me soon. Drives great. But that doesn't say anything.

Please any help or advice will be very appreciated!

Relax, it's just your air pump going bad. On a cold start, the car will run rich and the air pump flows air into your exhaust manifold in order to get the cat up to operating temperature more quickly. Depending on how cold it is, this can take from about 20 seconds to 1 minute.

Thank you for the response!

So to clarify. I start it that loud whine is the pump?.. After 30sec -1min when it disengages that's the pump slowing back down or?. When it goes how will I know? Are they expensive to replace?

The loud whine is the Airpump feeding the CAT. The bearings on the inside are shot. It goes away after a minute because the pump shuts off.

They are not expensive and you can even rebuild it if you have ANY mechanical ability really. It only requires two bearings.

I have the numbers for the bearings since i have a set at home. Im at work at the moment though. If ya need em let me know. Also depending upon what your plans are for the car you may be able to remove the Airpump soon.
food for thought.

I'm game for the bearing P/N as well, when you have a chance. Thanks....

If you have any plan of going Catless in near future then you can disconnect the airpump.
I have had mine disconnected for over a year now.

But if you plan on keeping the CAT then it's will be a good investment to rebuild it.

I'm interested in the bearing part numbers, as well.
