Possible clogged cats

So I took the new RX8 out tonight. It would be in a out of power. Even at one point it was like full power nothing was wrong. I have spark plugs and wires on the way. Also have a front O2 sensor.

The wife and I both noticed smoke coming from armrest area. The armrest was also hot to the touch. It was like something beneath it was on fire.

I'm guessing my stumbling and misfiring is due to a completely clogged catalytic converter. I'm pretty sure it's the stock cat....the car has 148K on the clock. Yes it's the second engine not worried about that.

I searched but couldn't find anything about the armrest getting hot and smoking through the floorboards.

That's where the CAT is. I would stop driving it if it is that hot...

I am, it's parked. Does the resonated midpipe make the car a lot louder if I have the REV2 RB exhaust already?

It's all personal taste The choice of resonator makes a huge difference too...stay away from anything that is glass packed or even packed with steel...they don't do well with Rotary heat and burn out quickly. They sound good for a few weeks and then go downhill after that

BHR, good sound, only a little bit louder then stock from idle to ~6k, then a little bit more, but not enough to draw say police attention or anything.

OK well I know you said BHR and I really do appreciate it, however it's out of my price range for this. I picked up an AP dual resonated midpipe. This is seriously a fix it thing. I'm not worried about it lasting thousands upon thousands of miles. Just need to fix the extreme clogged cat.

Fair enough, if you can weld and get the tubing for cheap, you can buy the BHR resonator by itself as well and make a pipe. You can also gut the catalytic converter, as in push/beat out the catalyst material and then stick it back on.
