Potential Buyer, few questions

Potential Buyer, few questions
So the rx8 has been my dream car for years, but I was only interested in the series 2 models since they have all the major issues taken care of. Well now that prices have come down far enough, I've been eyeing an R3 and might bite the bullet soon
It'll be replacing an 06 Lexus IS350. Any 8 owners have experience with these? Just wondering how they compare overall.
Power-wise, I'm sure the R3 doesn't compare, but coming from much faster cars in the past, the is350 doesn't seem fast to me at all. So I figure if I'm going to get a slow car anyway, why not get something that's a lot more fun to drive. I do love the comfort and dead quiet cabin though.
Also I would have to drive the R3 through this winter (In Alberta, Canada) until I can afford a second beater for next winter. I have the IS350 RWD with winter tires and starting from a full stop on an incline is a pain. I have to crawl at 2mph until I can gain enough momentum to speed up. I hope the R3 with the LSD will do better. I would be keeping the winter wheels off the Lexus (17" 5x114.3) to throw them on the R3

Welcome aboard. You'll want to catch up on this:

The series 2's had some improvements, but read up so you know what you're getting into.
The rest of the plan sounds good, make sure you get it rustproofed, especially the rear wheel arches. Mine are permanently packed with heavy grease. It doesn't have particularly high ground clearance, so while winter driving overall is fine, don't go out in a snowstorm.

Thanks, anyone in Canada recommend a good place to order coils/plugs/wires? This would be the first thing I would do when/if I get the car

Mine is S2. Here is the brief summary:
- Although there are some improvements in S2 (starter, fuel pump, water pump, rotor housings etc.) the core engine is still Renesis 13B with the same apex seals. So it's still prone to potential failure.
- S2 spare parts are limited (and more expensive). Many S1 parts are not compatible with S2
- In general, RX8 will require knowledge, experience, care and money. If you are ready to meet these requirements, then take one.
PS. Don't forget the compression test before buying..

For plugs, Mazmart is your best bet. Even with the exchange rate and duty in mind, it's gonna be better than any prices you can get in Canada. The dealer, NAPA and ClubPlug all want $40 for each spark plug, while Mazmart wants $65(last time I checked) for the entire set.
For coils and wires, you can either get the OEM ones(from Mazmart) or upgrade to BHR or SakeBomb ones. Your pick.
