Potential RX8 owner - need guru advice
Hi Guys,
A warm Hello! to everyone from Riga, Latvia.
I'm a potential RX8 owner coming from a Honda enthusiast with 4 engines build including B20Vtec with 245hp. Tired of building and decided to have some out of the factory power with Wankel engine RX8. I found one interesting offer locally and will take it for full diagnostics next week.
Now for the hard part - questions
The RX8 I'm looking at was originally 140kw and had an engine fail. The seller replaced the engine with 171kw engine and same for the gear box 5speed was replaced by 6speed. The ECU is left original as is as he was unable to "remap" the one from 171w donor. Both cars are 2004. Original chassis = Europe. Donor engine gearbox = England.
Question: The car was running on the "inappropriate" ECU. Could this lead to damage? The car is running ok but I doubt it is correct operation.
If the tests next week show acceptable results, what is your recommendation how to "remap" the ECU? I know that the ECU is meant only for the particular car and can not be replaced.
Sorry if this was already treated in the forum but I couldn't find a straight answer.
Thank you all in advance.

Thank you for the advice. I think I'll follow it.
Need your thoughts about one more issue. Today I looked at the RX8 2007. High power. The car has 73k km on it and runs good. But(!) the has a cell. Owner states that it was on for 1.5 years and it is a CAT cell. He did not fix it because the dealer wanted too much for the replacement parts and he can not afford it. (I do not understand such car owners - but it is another story).
I'm planning to take the car to a dealer for full check. But I highly doubt that after more then 1 year of driving with CAT cell the engine would be in good shape.
What do you say? Should I take the chance and spend 100Euro for full check or leave it RIP ?
Thank you all in advance.
