Premix Question

Premix Question
Hey Guys,
I just bought a "new" 2004 RX8 with 56k on it. From what I understand it was never premixed. Should I start now or is it too late? Also no issues so far with the engine, just trying to be proactive.
Thanks,
Hyde

I know yours is a series 1 but, this thread helped me change my thinking to premixing. From what I’ve read/been told it’s never too late.

Better late than never.
That's not a lot of miles, so it's a a good time to start.

Premixing is always beneficial, I have used a ratio of 0.8 ounces per gallon of fuel and found no adverse results (the exception being that I have had a cat failure, but these vehicles are very prone to that anyways and this was already an aftermarket replacement of some kind from the previous owner).
Ideally a good premix oil is one designed to mix with fuel, i.e. two-stroke oil, stable at high temperatures, and burns as cleanly as possible. The easiest way to compare these factors is to look at JASO certifications. Idemitsu's rotary premix has a JASO FC certification, an oil that carries the FD certification has additional detergents. FB has the same lubricity properties but is NOT considered low-smoke, I'd avoid using that unless it is all that you can find.
You can read more about the JASO system here.
