Purchasing an rx-8
Hello to whoever will read this, I’m considering buying a 2007 Mazda rx-8 and had a few questions/ inquiries. I will say that I’m not a complete fear head and grease monkey and don’t really know my way around an engine other than the basics, I really love the look of the rx-8 and have watched a few videos and read a few things about them. I’ve been speaking to a man from a dealership about an rx-8 he’s selling, it has just over 50k miles on the clock and is in good condition as from what I can see in the photos. We have spoken on the phone am he has assured me that there’s no internal or external problems with the car but is selling it almost £1000 cheaper than any other one I’ve seen online and has got relatively low miles, I’m meant to be viewing it on Tuesday and wanted to ask if there’s any obvious things that will indicate problems with it when I go to see it. Please can someone get back to me as I don’t want to get ripped off because that wouldn’t be good for the man doing the ripping off. Thanks

Ask if they'll do a rotary specific compression test.
If not, take it on a test drive long enough to get the engine hot.
Notice how long it takes to start cold, then after it's hot switch it off and start it again to see if it starts immediately.
If it takes longer than the cold start, pass.
