In my impression, they only catch anything if you have a boosted rotary, or NA rotary in poor health, or you overfilled the oil.

On a healthy NA 8 they wouldn't catch anything. My intake accordion had some oil in it when I bought it. After I cleaned it, it stayed bone dry ever since. I didn't have a catch can.

It also appears the windshield washer tank has been removed for some reason.

Love that hot air intake though.

Oh yeah, I totally missed that.

I feel like some people mod that just so they can say they modded their car and it looks different from stock. Performance or even drivability differences mean nothing to them.

The beauty of this car is it's nearly perfect stock. They set it up well straight from the factory so there isn't much you really need to do to it. Catch can is still a good mod in case you accidentally overfill your oil but yea, doesnt add anything to the performance.

Catch can was never made for performance, unless you count maintaining the same level performance as a performance mod. It's more of a reliability mod.

The people who mostly need it are people with modern turbo DI engines, especially those in colder climates. It could be helpful for people with NA DI engines as well, but the blowby on turbo engines are worse due to the elevated cylinder pressure, and you don't have gasoline washing it off like on PI engines so the buildup on the back of the valves can become significant.

With the way an NA rotary works, I don't think it will normally have much positive pressure in the oil pan, but like you said, could be good if you had a oopsie and added too much oil.
