Random check engine light

Car runs the same no issues this far. What should I check for to find the cause of the error? Checked suggestions in the manual that I could do myself.

Ya gotta figure out what error code your OBD is giving you.

Take it into your local AutoZone, advanced auto or whatever part store and get a free reading.

Check your gas cap. Just open and close it and make sure it's tight and nothing is broken. Give it a day or two to react.

If it doesn't go out then you're into trying to replace evap canister solenoids and things that are less exciting and definitely less cheap.

If re-tightening the gas cap doesn't work, try replacing the gas cap before anything else in the fuel system. It's not a common mode of failure bu it does happen and gas caps are waaaaay easier to replace than almost anything else in/on the car.

They're replacing the evap purge pump? Well, ok then. But give that gas cap a tug while they're at it

For APs:
MazdaManiac RX-8 AccessPORT

Pretty sure he's the only source for new ones. I had a great experience with his tuning service, some others didn't. Otherwise you can buy one used, but without a tune it's useless and it's not a good idea to transfer tunes from one car to another. Look into Mazdaedit, it's gaining popularity.
