Random starting issues.

Hi , I have a 04 RX-8 GT 4 speed AT with 43,000 km's. Coils plugs and plug wires were changed in 28,000 KM's ..

I have this issue which is I have a random starting issue..

70% of the time car starts like a champ without any hesitation it just turn over fine. But 30% of the time when hot it drags to start and sometimes it doesn't start at all but at the 2 or 3rd attempt it starts after dragging .. never had to wait for a long time ...

## and this random starting issue will not happen if I use the car regularly..

This starting issue only occur on the very first or 2 days when i use the car after a couple of days letting it sit n a garage for a couple of days . I don't know whether its my mind .. but thought to share it if its helpful.

Now the problems I currently have have
# whenever I full my gas , it leaks fuel
and it stops leaking when it reach 3/4 .

# Even when fuel is not leaking when I floor the car with windows down I smell un burned fuel .

Additional info.

* Absoult engine load in in idle is 25
* Noraml CAT temp is around 1200-1400F
* Air intake temps 110-150F

Sounds like you have a few issues.
Leaking gas tank.
Failing ignition.
Maybe poor compression (should get it checked)
Failing or Failed catalytic.

Start on one problem and work thru it ...

The question I have is ... how the heck do you have a 04 with only 43,000 km on it with a leaking fuel tank?
Has it sat outside it's whole life?

The upgraded starter will help with the hot starting issue but it's more a band aid than a fix.
Hot start issues are normally bad compression or shitty ignition, so I would look there first.

Hi
the car have been only used in weekends and very rarely it was taken out regularly, and leaking petrol started from last December ..

it cant be compression as the car starts so fine when hot most of the time .. it doesn't even take a second
To start over sometime that's what bothers me

How can you say his cat is failing? Aren't those cat temps normal? 1200 when idling and 1600 when flooring it?
