rebuild: oil scraper ring will not fit
I'm a pretty new member here but i've been using a lot of the information from this forum and several shops to rebuild my 04 rx8. I just recently finished prep work for all my parts and started with rotor assembly. My first rotor went together quite well and the rear face of my rear rotor went together fine. But now i am working on the front face and my brand new oil scraper ring will not seat properly. First instinct says try harder or grab the deadblow and make it fit but i quickly dismissed that little voice.
The problem is simple, seems the oil scraper ring is too long. i've used petro jelly with it and tried several different ways to put it in. i've tried the old (good) scraper rings from the tear down and same issue. Tried starting with the flat end against the rotation lock key and working the ring into place around the rotor till i get to the notched end where it seats on top of the flat end of the ring. I've tried flushing up the 2 ends and working it into the seat but on the opposite side it will not seat as if it were too big for the groove. I'm told this is a really rare issue and i can't seem to find a fix.
pictures here are the results of my efforts. any insights are welcome. First and foremost rule in this rebuild is no compromise. If i don't know the right way then i find it.
