Rebuild post #365

New to being a member on this forum but I’ve looked at about 100 different posts here over the past 2 years. I have an ‘09 Manual RX8 and the engine is obviously needing rebuild. Is it worth it to do the rebuild or just buy a new or remanufactured motor? I was up to the challenge of rebuilding until I learned about clearances and tolerances and feel like that’s above my skill level. Living in Georgia there aren’t many places that will touch a rotary so I’d say a shop visit is out of question. If I should buy another motor, where from without spending 6k?
TIA 🤘

Definitely don't DIY it if you don't feel comfortable and would not like to do it again in a year. Not sure about Georgia but in Florida you have Pettit Racing and in Tennessee (i think) Rotary Resurrection. Either should be able to sell you a good rebuilt engine, and install it if you bring them the car. Beyond that there's always Mazda, it's not a bad option.

What makes you think the engine needs replacement?

A Mazda reman is hard to argue with. Price seems to be competitive with the reputable rebuilders, and it encourages Mazda to keep making them.

I'm in Huntsville, AL and decided to bring mine to rotary resurrection he did a great job on mine. He has a couple fresh rebuilds for sale right now. not a bad option at all, especially since there is no core charge
