Rebuilt Engine
#3
There are no new Renesis engines available for purchase. The only way to build a new engine would be to build it buy buying all new parts from Mazda which would cost about $8000.00 give or take, and that is about what a new 09-11 engine ran brand new (can't get them anymore either).
As for what was replaced in your engine, well without knowing who did it, it's hard to say. But as ZiG mentioned, if it was a Mazda dealer then a reman engine was installed and your old engine was used as a core to be sent back to the reman factory.

Unfortunately you leave us a little in the dark. Who installed it? What did "They" tell you? I mean, the guys pretty much have stated all the questions we need to know to tell you things. Mazda reman engines seem to be very hit or miss, more miss than anything else from my farvewing observers status. That doesn't mean they are all bad, just some worse than others. I mean - At a minimum a rebuilt engine consists of new seals and a hell of a lot of cleaning, port checking, making sure ****'s not going to bind and will spin correctly.

Rebuilt engine
We are trying to sell the car and one of the questions being asked is how long they can expect the car to last. Any ideas? It has a new engine, are there any other items that might go next on a 93k millage rx8?

If it's a 2008 or newer, it could still be under the 8 year/100,000mi engine warranty.

Coils are not part of the engine replacement by default. Only the engine core, flywheel and a few other odds and ends. Can always check with the dealer, you should have an itemized list of what was done.

I had mine done by Kevin at Rotary Resurrection this June. He did a fantastic job and we just finished reinstallation and it is working great. He sends tear-down photos and then offers options for the rebuild and parts replacement and then rebuild photos. We replaced the rather worn housings and the engine is running great after less than 100 miles. We still have a few other things to work on (non-mechanical), but we are tickled with the engine and the rebuild by RR.
