Greetings! I read the forums, but this is my first time posting. I have had my manual transmission 2006 RX8 since 2008. I'm the second owner of the car. It goes out with me to work at least once a week, unless the weather is bad. My commute is mostly highway driving of about 32 miles one way. It still runs great. I stay on top of service for the car. The suspension had to be replaced about three years ago, I came home from work in my Mazda 3, and the 8 was sagging pretty bad on the back driver's side, so my husband and I replaced all the suspension. The driver's side window motor broke, and we replaced that as well. I need to fix the loose handle on the passenger's side soon before it breaks.
The reason I am writing, yesterday, I had a situation where I had to run an errand at lunch, and I work in a city that has train tracks that go across the whole city in both directions. It was extremely hot and humid, and with the stop and go traffic, the AC didn't seem to work at all. On my way back, I was waiting to turn left, and a train passes through, so I had to sit for several minutes to wait on it. This is the first time I've ever seen the temperature gauge start sneaking above halfway. It crept up a little bit, so as soon as the train passed I stopped at the gas staton and let the car cool down a bit. All was well and I drove it back up the hill to work. Driving home, the temperature gauge was fine.
Therefore, I think I have a radiator fan that isn't spinning fast enough, or has died. I know that at least one of them works, because I can hear it, and feel the hot air it expels.
I have seen quite a few posts on here about fans, and what fans to buy and not buy. For those of you who have kept your 8 for a while after replacing the fans, did your replacement fans keep working long term? If they did, what kind did you buy?
