Replaced Starter, now loosing power..
Hi Guys, Sorry for the new thread but couldn't find a soluition to exact symptoms i am having.
04 6MT. 245k kms.. (plugs, coils, wires, air filter changed 10k kms ago)
On Firday I parked the car came back and it wont start, my mechanic figured it was the starter, we got it rebuilt. now it starts but it takes 8-10 seconds to start. Before it would start in 1-2 seconds.
Also, I feel she is lacking power in a sense my acceleration is a bit slower, and I feel that the roar from the exhaust is missing. (something like exhaust or cat is squeezed) I do have a exhaust leak (donut gasket) which will be replaced tomorrow.
I also performed the deflooding procedure thinking it may be a minor flood. Changed engine oil and filter. My Mechanic says change the battery. Should I change the battery or should i just get a new starter from mazda for $300.
For the battery im considering Red Optima. Or should I buy the regular motomaster?
Any help will be greately appreciated.
Thanks

If it starts at all, it's not flooded. Part of the definition of "Flooding" includes the inability to start through normal cranking.
The starter also has nothing to do with the car once the car is started. It just sits there out of the way.
Have you looked through this thread yet?

Thanks RIWWP. Yes I reveiwd the thread
I went through it again and I figured I may have a dying battery, Faulty OMP as i have oil in intake box, and burns less than 1 qt every 800 kms. I will check and clean the e-shaft sensor as well.
another question, when I start the car esp early mornings, you can smell heavy gas fumes on the outside. is it normal or will it be considerd as fuel system leak?
If my calculations are accurate then I am gettin 18mpg highway/city mixed. i fill 45 liters and it lasts me 300 kms on good days.
Recently, my power steering stoped working, for 2 weeks. i took out a bunch of stuff from the trunk and rear seats, the very same day temperature droped to -5 and my power steering started working just fine. any ideas what could that be?
My car is old and has highmileage its a daily driver any advice on keeping her in good order will be appreciated.
Thanks Guys

If you can pinpoint it to the tail pipe, the engine bay, or the back seat, I can tell you more about the fuel smell. On startup, it's typical to smell a heavier fuel smell from the tail pipe, thanks to running really rich when cold. If you smell it in the cabin while driving with the windows up, then it's a leak at the fuel pump. If you smell it from the engine bay, it's the main fuel line connection (which is by far the most dangerous)
The power steering problem sounds electrical, might want to think about replacing the battery, which would also have a starting impact. for the better.

Thanks bro.. I am replacing the battery, cleaning the e-shaft and sterring sensors tomorrow. Also, installing a new donut exhaust gasket.
The fuell smell i was reffering to is from the tail pipe. I guess that's just normal, my friend said that culd just be clogged fuel filter.
Any suggestions on OMP, or should i install sohn adapter instead?
Thanks fro your help..:-)

It's unlikely you have a faulty OMP unless you are either throwing a CEL, have a flashing oil light, or not burning any oil. Excessive oil in the intake has only been an OMP failure perhaps twice in the past 4-5 years from my memory. Both cases it was A LOT of oil. Driveability problems all over and like a quart ever 100-200 miles.
Likely you just need a catch can, though a SOHN adapter is always a good recommendation. Get that dirty 4-stroke out of the combustion chamber.

So, I went and put the car on lift again..
Replaced the exhaust gasket the one after the resonator.
Also noticed my exhaust pipe leaking from 3 diffrent places after the resonator. That may explain the roar/rumble missing from Exhaust Tone.
However, My starting issue is still the same, I cleaned the e-shaft sensor.
Should I replace the coils? I just installed new coils+Plugs+Wires 10k kms ago.
Please advise
Thanks

Sorry guys, I cheked couple of threads on how to test the coils. but could barely comprehend what they suggested lol. I am thinking to buy new coils and see if that makes a diffrence. However the dealer price is insane in toronto each coil is for $104. I might aswell order a BHR kit.. Are there any forum vendors, or some sort of discounts for forum members?
I bought my coils n plugs just 4 months ago from rx8performance.com and driven only 10k kms on them. Any clue

2 coil testing methods:
- Use a timing light (the same way you use any timing light, just watch for the stability of the light rather than worrying about the actual timing in degrees)
- Use a spark tester like this:

When it comes to coil choices:
A) Pay the crazy dealer prices for OEM coils, hopefully they are actually revision C coils, unknown how long they actually last (everyone says "longer", but no actual data on that)
B) Pay a more reasonable cost for OEM coils from Mazmart which you can be sure they are revision C, unknown how long they last, solid customer support from a forum vendor.
C) Buy Intermotor coils from an auto parts store, which are roughly equivalent to Revision A coils, expect to replace every 20-30k, but often come with "lifetime" warranties which can be used to keep replacing the coils for free
D) Buy counterfeit "Mazda OEM" coils from ebay which may fail rather quickly and you won't have any post-purchase support from people willing to defraud you
E) Buy generic D585 LS coils and patch together a kit that will probably have problems.
F) Buy the BHR ignition upgrade that really should last the life of the car, and comes with excellent support from a great forum vendor.

No, Ray doesn't offer discounts to my knowledge, though if you wait till Friday, maybe he will have a black friday sale (but might not, no idea if he even has in prior years).
You aren't overpaying though, he prices his items fairly for what you get, and you get the best available.

I will just go head and place an order. Winter is here and the way my car is starting at the
moment I fear it wont even bother starting at all as soon the temp drops below -10
Thanks for all your help RIWWP.. I'll update once I have installed BHR kit and a new exhaust/Muffler pipe..I hope that will rectify my starting issues and a little lack of power.
