Rev limit or bouncing off the rev

Exclamation Rev limit or bouncing off the rev

Ive been driving my rx8 for a while here in Sri lanka 🇱🇰 and ive been ocnstantly miding to take it upto 9000 as Adivsed but quite a few times ive been bounving it off the rev limiter to get pops n bangs out of my hks exhaust. so what i genuinely curious is for the "redline a day" theory, should i shift when it beeps or when it bounces.... have i done any damage by bouncing it off the rev limiter..??

So if the bouncing isnt good when shoud i shift at..??

tried googling for hours but found no answer


PS Its a 6SPD AT.

Don't bounce it off the limiter. I'm not sure about damage to the engine, it should be fine, but the limiter is ignition cut, so your bangs and pops are small explosions of unburned fuel in the catalytic converter. It's not made to handle small explosions.

Anyway, rpm is not that important, what's important is long period of high load/high pressure full throttle application. If you have to choose between getting to redline in 1st or standing on the gas in 3rd for a while, use 3rd. In an automatic, I guess just find a higher speed/long uphill location to do your full throttle runs.

okayy so all i did was when i do my about once a week commute to my uni i let all hel loose and push it to the floor n bounce it off the limiter upto around the 3rd gear when im coming home after the toll gates of the expressway ( for abt 3 kms ). And this was done maximum 10 times and after a trip of abt 200km..

and i usually use the car spiritedly so like u said many 3rd gear pulls ..

i didnt knw about the bouncing wasnt as great theory thanks for the info Loki..
i hope i havent done any damage...
