Ripley the RX8
Hiya. Let me introduce you to Ripley the RX8 (luxury 6MT)
Melbourne Car. bought in 2006 by my Retired Father as his first true sports car.
He paid full price, and since then has only put 65,000kms (40,000miles)
Serviced on time; everytime at City Mazda in Melbourne CBD.
Full service history. Oil checks and top-ups every second tank. Revved Regularly.
run-in on 98 and then run on 95.
It had ignition coil replacement at 35,000kms
Had it's 130,000km schedule service at 60,000kms
And 2000kms ago got 4 brand new tyres, aligned and balanced.
It has never been modified, as my Dad relied on Mazda to keep it healthy.
Being the luckiest son of a bitch ever.
I just got gifted this beauty.
I will be keeping my journal of details, queries and experiences on this forum for all of you to enjoy.
I will also be using Reddit and crossposting as much as possible.
So far i have a list of very minor issues.
Bent front numberplate (sorted)
Worn gearknob metal. (sorted)
Worn carpet under clutch.
Not 100% consistent idle. Probably hovers between 850-1000rpm at idle at running temp on warm day. (Will clean MAF) after cleaning MAF and checking OBD readouts it sits at 833rpm when warm.
Possible MIAC. Father noticed it, and stopped pushing it so hard. (rattle noise sound from behind the glovebox above 6000rpm) Hasn't come back! But haven't been letting coolant temps above 100c.
I am tempted to do a coolant bypass on the throttle body. But need more input from more experienced people.
After that mod, i would think the best thing would be to PreMix and have a really hard long drive, hoping to clear out as much carbon build up as possible.
Any input, questions or more info needed please don't hesitate to post.
Thanks guys.
So glad RX8 club exists.

yeah i've read so much stuff my head is dizzy.
but it all helps.
Going to disconnect the coolant bottle sensor cable and investigate the cleaning of the MAF today.
And see how hard it is going to be to access the throttle body coolant pipes.
Hopefully my hands are skinny enough.

Okay so i took her for a nice run today.
19c ambient.
Topped up the coolant before setting off.
Drove reasonably hard for short bursts, watching the OBD2 readout from Torque Pro.
I logged temps for the entire drive.
At its peak i believe coolant temp hit 97c
Seems a bit excessive for the ambient temps, and how i was driving.
I really wasn't going that fast. didn't really hit 100km/h, so maybe lack of airflow contributed.
But no MIAC sound at all which is good.
Definitely going to start putting in 98RON and logging my temps.
If i do a throttle body bypass will i see my coolant temps lowered? Or will that just help to keep the throttle body cool, removing heat soak?
