Rotor compression inbalance

Front rotor shows 90 psi. Rear shows 72 psi. Both are within range. What are the ramifications?

Within what range? If those are normalized to 250 RPM, both are failing.

The ramifications are that you aren't making anywhere near normal power levels. If it still runs, good for you but it's time for a rebuild.

Yes, bought with 135000 miles for $2,300. Idle is a little lumpy. Still pulls very strong to 9,000 rpm. Power seems more like turbine shaft engine. Psi in range for stats published. No check engine.

Which published stats are those? Again, those are failing numbers if normalized to 250 RPM

Lumpy idle can be a symptom of low compression.

Search for rx8 compression chart. At 250rpm 98psi is the failing line. 72psi is extremely low.

Wait till you drive one with good compression

What are you measuring this with anyway? A normal compression tester is the wrong tool that will give wrong results.

^yep, sounds to me that OP didn't use the right tool.

You need a rotary-specific compression tester. You will have to go to a Mazda dealer or a rotary shop to get it done.

Rotary compression changes quite a bit depending on cranking RPM. You also need to warm up the engine before testing.

Sounds like low compression with those numbers. If you can get a full rotary-specific compression test to refute those numbers, ok, otherwise face the facts and get that rebuild.
