Rpm surges from 1k - 1500 only when put into gear
Just bought a beater rx8 with a whole bunch of aftermarket junk on it, it idles fine and seems to drive good once you get it going, but whenever you put it into gear the rpms surge bad. I saw a video of another kid with the same problem, but it only happens for him when the clutch was depressed. A lot of people are saying it’s the neutral safety switch, and a lot of people are saying it’s the clutch switch. I’ll probably end up replacing both but I figured I’d get a couple more opinions before I start doing anything. Thanks In advance😁p.s. I tried uploading a video but it wouldn’t let me

the clutch isn’t dragging. the clutch collar was replaced by Mazda when the previous owner had it, I doubt that has anything to do with it, but i may as well mention it. It also has a short throw shifter installed.

it’s generally the neutral switch that causes this problem and it’s well documented on the forum, but someone with a high level scanner can confirm if it’s working properly or not,
not sure where Loki came up with the clutch comment, that’s a real doozy …
where are you located?
