running out of fuel
my series II runs out of fuel when my gauge is showing anywhere between 1 notch below the 1/4 full and 2 notches above the empty with out fuel light coming on.
could some of you help me answer these questions to help me determine if my tanks are empty, if my fuel is not transferring between each tank, or if my gauge or sender is faulty.
1. is there a post on this already for series II
2. any one had this happen to them
3. is the fuel pick up on the same tank as sender for gauge
* im in aus so my drivers side is the right side of car

Do you mind mentioning how many miles/kms are on the car? It wouldn't be crazy to say that the fuel level sender is faulty, but less likely on a car with low mileage. It could also be the fuel pump itself as if it was faulty it would overheat at lower fuel levels. I dont know of too many S2's with failing fuel pumps, but again, anything is possible.

My suspicion is that your fuel pump might be slowly failing and it is only apparant when the fuel level is getting lower so that it cannot cool the pump effectively. If possible, monitor your fuel pressure, the S2 will get between 60-65psi on a normally operating pump regardless of fuel level

What paimon.soror is saying is its possible your failing fuel pump is overheating when the fuel level is so low that it can not cool the pump effectively. In that case the pump will just shut off. You would not notice any lack of performance at high speed/rpm, the pump would just shut down when it overheats . My 2008 series 1 had this issue at 54,000 miles and I had to replace the failing pump with a DW200. The series 2 pumps are supposed to be a much better pump, so I don't really know if the series 2 pumps are prone to also overheating and failing at your mileage. Also the series 2 has one more gallon in the fuel tank than the series 1
