Not that I can think of. You can identify if it's a series 1 or series 2(2009+) by checking for a mechanical OMP drive (S1) or 2 electronic OMPs (S2), and for whether its a 4 port or 6 port by counting the intake runners. But I don't think you can know the year nor does it really matter? It's not bread, doesn't expire from age, only from use.

77 cylinders, 4 rotors...
There is a serial number on the top of the front rotor housing. You might be able to find out from Mazda what year car the engine came out of using that number.
I believe Mazda remans do not have this number.

There might be some differences in terms of how the engine is dressed that could give you some clue, assuming we are talking about a dressed engine here.
IIRC, 04 and 05 engines had a more exposed ESP sensor, while 06 and up had a shield around it to protect it better. There might be other differences as well, I think the EGR is also different? My memory is a little fuzzy now.
Assuming it is stored properly, that is. There is a YouTube channel I recently started watching called I Do Cars, and the dude tears down a lot of cores, quite a few of which sat outside and had a ton of rust in them, which is definitely one of his pet peeves. He even did a Renesis teardown. Good channel, worth checking out IMO if you like seeing blown engines.
