Likely a faulty connection in the radio unit itself. Its easy to get out there are numerous tutorials out there on YouTube on how to remove it. Likely some bad wiring. Does that radio and AC controls all still work? you could try the reset code before removing the unit.
If you get "Code", then press Auto-M/Tune and 6 together, and enter the set code, then press Auto-M and 6 together. If you dont know this, enter a wrong one three times and you get "Err".
Once you have "Err", press these buttons in order. 6, AM, Auto-M/Tune, Seek+
You then get a code prompt again. Enter 3511 and press and hold Auto-M, whilst doing that press 6 . You should get "GOOD", and it will fire up.

update flashing display and lights behind radio and air section
No code.
Just the flashing display showing “mazda RX-8”, and radio panel lights light up in unison when display is blank, on and off.
ac and heat appear to work along with blower, but no lights indicating what’s selected.
could this be related to security or key fob?
