Hey guys i just bought a 2006 rx8 with no engine or transmission but it was originally an automatic. I got my hands on a 6 port engine with a 6 speed transmission. From my understanding what i would need for the manual conversion would be an ecu with the key, ignition cylinder(all lock cylinders from the same car the ecu came from so you can use the key), the abs module and immobilizer from the same car(so the electronics all communicate without reprogramming), a dashboard from the manual car, the clutch pedal and brake pedal assembly. Ive already got a new dash and i can get the ecu and accessories. Im not really interested in reply’s about why its a bad idea im well aware lol. My question is am i missing anything? Can i use the same wiring harness? ive seen threads saying yes and no.
What year is the engine? I would think you need the right wiring harness as well, there are enough differences between auto and manual signaling, including some sensors.
Its a 2006. I think i read somewhere that theres only one or two minor differences In the wiring harnesses but i cant find the threads anymore. If i do need one it wont be too much of a problem. I found a parts car that i can get the abs module, immobilizer, ecu, and key cylinders from i could probably pull that harness. Is it necessary though? Does anyone know if you can repurpose the auto?
there is already an extensive write up on this if you search AT to MT swap.
you are gonna be fighting yourself a lot if you dont get a 2006+ manual parts car WITH SMART KEY like you currently have. ask me how i know...
no you do not need lock cylinders or wiring harnesses or immobilizers... you need a good locksmith , the manual ecu, and the instrument cluster . plus all the manual parts like the shifter/trans/ppf/driveshaft/rear diff/pedals/steering wheel/shift console/clutch master
the battery harness is different and the engine harness is different obviously but arent different to the car. The only additional wiring is for clutch pedals (two wires that can be ran yourself)
