Rx8 burning oil and power steering problem

Hi all. I have brought a beauty she is an 07 nemisis with 64k on it but has issues.
1. Burning oil bad
2. Power steering fault
I think the guy that owned before me has been running the wrong oil as it seemed really thin almost like gear oil.
The first things I tried where all the obvious ones like changing the oil for some 10-40 and put some oil restorer in which I'm slowly getting round the engine. I have also checked the breather hoses and here lies the question. Is there supposed to be a vaccum accoss the small non return valve at the back of the air intake (it has an arrow on it)? And is this likely to be the problem!
Have have done cold compression tests with 100 psi in the front rotor and 65 psi in the rear!
I guess your all going to say a rebuild, but the car starts great within about 3 secs of turning the key.
The second problem being no PS. I have seen a few threads on loose connectors so will try those first.
Any ideas on the burning oil / over oiling into the combustion chamber? Cheers new 8 fan

What do you mean by burning oil bad. It should burn a quart every 3000 miles maybe a lot more if you drive it hard.

Power steering is normally the connector. extend your coolant overflow hose to the side of the radiator and clean the connector for power steering.

The line on the check valve should point toward the intake manifold.

65 PSI is really low and the differance from front to back should be pretty small. It sounds like you might have a bad engine. Get a proper rotary test. The results you get will be 3 pressures and one engine speed per a rotor. a total of 8 numbers. Do it with the engine hot. If it drives good, then drive it until it doesn't. A rebuild will get a little power but who cares if you are happy with it.

Hi and thanks for the reply. PS now sorted it was the white ground connector by the side of the battery housing.
Just to check about the arrow on that non return valve, currently mind points toward the oil filler not the air intake is this wrong?
Kind Regards Garry

I am refering to where the hose runs. The arrow should point to a hose that runs into the intake manifold. It doesn't really matter what it points toward just where the hose runs.

Mazda suggest 5w20 in North America because of our cold winter weather but IMO 5w20 is way too thin for summer use, wankels are running hot to start with, add summer weather + engine under stress if you push it a little you get thin hot ''not much effective'' oil. What's too thin oil for you? Try this : put new oil in, let the engine warm up on idle then check the oil density. If its as thin as before its just usual 5w20 thin azz oil @ operating temps lol. if it seems thicker then before try to put 2-3k miles on it and check again, if thinner, look for blue'ish purple @ sun light = fuel getting in oil, or drop the oil in a pan and let it sit a little, look for surface water = coolant leak. These are the 2 common reasons for thin used oil, no weak compression, crank case vaccum/vent issues will cause this.
About your PS issue : Does it feel completely dead to you or does it feel different @ ''x'' speed on a particular side ? Is it harder on ''1 side / left or right'' randomly ?

Thanks for the tips. At least the PS is now fixed, it was the small white ground connector next to battery box, quite why you would put 5 inches of wire then cut and join it is beyond me, guess mazda had a job lot of connectors to get rid of.
Still looking for the burning oil issue I plugged in a mates code reader and it came up with a fault code:
P0661 Intake manifold Tunning valve control circuit low (bank 1)
Any ideas what this maybe or is it just because the car is running rough?
