RX8 died

A few days ago as I approached a stop sign in my 2005 RX8 I depressed clutch and the motor died. I tried to crank it several times in which the motor spun quickly (almost like broken timing belt in other vehicles) and then it would start bogging down. Rather than continue trying to start it I decided to have it towed to mechanic who noticed that the oil filter was loose and that I may have lost significant amount of oil prior to it dying. The next day he cranked it right up. Why would it not crank until the next day when it seemed to crank easily? Could this be an apex seal issue?

Because it's easier for a low compression engine to start cold, the seal clearances are tighter. Have your compression tested with a rotary tester. Yes you may need a rebuild. Don't give money over for any other kind of compression test, it's useless

Have you been keeping up on ignition coil and spark plug changes?
