S2 Rx8 powered mx5
Hi all,
As per title really, im building a monster.
Tubular front end, r3 engine, adaptronic ecu, rx7 gearbox and throttle bodies.
Saying hello, looking forward to gaining access to the technical areas as I have a LOT of questions...mainly regarding the r3 OMP and oil injection system...

Yeah sorry, forgot im not posting on a generic car forum this time! Im aware that it is a s2 renesis but more people on different forums are aware of there being an r3 rx8 but not that there was a revised renesis! So I've just fallen into the habit of calling it that for ease of typing.
I've gone for the s2 renesis for a number of reasons. Cost of the engine vs a REW, lower mileage over a s1 renesis, so either way I don't have to shell out for a rebuild.
Im staying N/a so I may aswell go for the best n/a engine. Putting the renesis engine in on the bodies im using I should see 220whp. That in a car that will weigh around 800kg with no lag should be great fun.
If I wanted lag and was chasing figures I would have bought an rx7

still 200 out of a miata that can rev to 9.5k will be sweet
can we get more info on you swap build/plans

Yeah don't worry, the cars getting money thrown at it but the engine came out of a track car that had hit the barrier. Engine has already had a rebuild before my ownership so Im confident that it will be up to par! Bloke I got it off seemed to know what he was talking about, dailied an R3 and was rebuilding a lotus exige.
WGT auto developments build a mx5 for a customer using a s1 renesis a few years ago and that made 210whp (obviously dyno dependant) on headers, standard size TB running on an adaptronic ecu. So we will see as im running on individual bodies and a fidanza ali flywheel.
Like I said though im not chasing figures, the car is all about smiles an hour, im building it to put a grin on my face!
I will try and pull my build thread over onto this site when I'm allowed out of the new members area haha.
However this is my current situation, just working on wiring at the moment.

Waiting on a photo to be approved but in a nutshell plans are series 2 renesis on a tubular front subframe from Claire at crapengineering. FC rx7 gearbox with a mx5 tail housing (they share a casting so it bolts straight on) so I can use standard mx5 prop and diff etc.
Fidanza lightweight flywheel and stage 2 clutch, these are both FC rx7 sized items to fit the bellhousing. Throttle bodies on a homemade stainless upper inlet manifold (which will be visible once the photo is approved by admins).
Im currently working on a separate 2 stroke tank and a scavanger pump with a pressure regulator to provide the oil injectors but I need to know what signal the stepper motors are given by the ecu to provide the correct amount of oil and design a controller similar to the EOMP.

Why the RX7 trans and Throttle body though?

I thought it explained why I needed it too, but that aside...
The FC n/a gearbox shares a rear casting pattern with an mx5 gearbox, and provides the correct bellhousing to bolt to the rx8 engine as 13b bellhousing bolt patterna are the same I.e you can bolt an rx7 box to an rx8 engine and visa versa.
If I used the rx8 box I would have had to weld and fabricate a new ppf (power plant frame), gearbox mounts, possibly modify the gearbox input shaft etc. by using the rx7 box everything simply bolts together without any fabrication! All I have to do is make engine mounts and is all mounted!
I also think you misunderstood the throttle body part, it's using throttle BODIES, not the rx7 throttle BODY.
I've custom fabricated an upper inlet manifold to mount them, granted I could have just used an 80mm universal throttle body to change to cable operation, but if im mounting the wrong engine in the wrong car I might aswell let it sound right! Right?
