hey guys ive been reading up on the forums about salvage tiltles and what i came up with is if you can see the damage done and can get it checked out by a mechanic for frame damage then it could be a good buy

now i found an 04 manual 94k miles with salvage title due to someone hitting his car in parking lot and the only thing wrong is the cat is about to go he said his CEL came on and the mechanics said it was the cat, and the kid is basically unable to afford the car anymore due to no longer having a job his list price is 6800 but after talking to him and explaining to him that due to the fact it needs new tires and the cat is bad he lowered it to $5200 now i haven't seen the car in person but based on pics its in flawless condition except for the passenger side bumper which has a dent and some scrapes(one that runs to the passenger door) i plan to get a compression test and full inspection done on it this upcoming week by Rotary Performance in Garland Tx and a body shop to inspect it.

i guess my question is do you guys think its worth $5200 the kbb value for it was $5501 in poor condition (with salvage title/ bad cat and dents/ damage)or should i just walk away, the reason I'm considering this specific car is that based on the pics he sent me of the damage it looks minor/ easily fixable, and i plan to gut the cat or just purchase the bhr midpipe with some of the extra money i don't spend, also my max price is about $6500 unfortunately all the other manual rx8's I've seen in this price range have 130,000+ miles on them, and this is a car i will be keeping for at least 3-4 years.

Just get another 8 without a salvage title.

The gaps from the hood and fender are horrible, you can get an '04 in good condition for around that price.
Plus, the car is missing the fender vents, fender lining & undertray and that's just from quickly looking at a single picture, I can only imagine the other halfass repair work that remains.

 

I'll say no...specially with a salvage title.

 

I too say pass. There are better cars out there. IMHO, that damage isn't enough to warrant a salvage title. Meaning, it was probably wrecked pretty hard and given the gaps others pointed out, wasn't put back together very well.

I'm not opposed to a Salvage title if you know how bad it was and you know how it was putback together. (i.e. you wrecked it or a buddy did, you've seen the damage and know how it's been fixed or your fixed it because you wanted to keep it and bought it back from the insurance company and did so.)

It will be a nightmare to sell down the road. But if $5200 is disposable to you and you just want to kick it around, then go for it.
