HELP RX8 Won’t start after spark plug change
So this story is kind of king but I would appreciate help. Basically a while back I tried replacing my ignition coil when the bracket bolts broke so I ordered a new one with some new coils. I ran those for a while ran fine no codes no check engine light. It was Friday the 11th of Feb I believe and that day I replaced the spark plug wires again ran even better. Start ups we’re a bit faster and hot starts were noticeably a bit better. That same day I also tried to replace my spark plugs but they were a pain in the *** to get out. I don’t know if they’ve been changed before since they were so hard to get out I could only get one out and ended up breaking the insulator on 1 of them so I had to go buy a special deep socket bolt biter and they came out like butter, all but 1. But I say to myself it’s ok, I’ll deal with that later I just wanna get the car running. Everything is connected and done right spark plugs are in nice and snug, I lower the car but the wheel on and when I go to start it it won’t start it cranks but won’t start. I checked everything and I’ve tried everything. Putting back old coils plugs and wires. Cleaning the spark plugs, deflooding it. Resetting ecu. New battery. Nothing has worked and I’m at a loss. So I took it to Mazda and they have me a fishy diagnostic. They said that 2 coils were not firing, hard to believe as They worked fine earlier started up the car real good. 1 spark plug was broken, but they also said they took out all 4. But when I got the car back all 4 were in. Either they’re lying out their ***, that means they put the broken one back in or, they never took them out in the first place I believe because they said my 2nd rotor had 0 compression, and couldn’t give me the compression reading for the front rotor I assume because they didn’t take out the “broken” spark plug. They want to charge 10,000 for a new engine. It’s so hard to believe that my second rotor bas 0 compression!!! It was running really good cold and hot starts idling and everything never showed any bad signs of compression, and now my car won’t start and I don’t know what to do. I have been dailying this car and taking good care of it. What now? What do you guys say? Lmk

- Dbl check that your coil to plug wire sequence is correct.
- Use an ignition coil tester to test each [plug+wire+coil] series.
- Who knows what the dealership did, but they should have been able to provide compression #s for both rotors. Regardless, you can try to A) get a compression tester and test them yourself, B) find another dealership, or C) source a rotary specific shop to do the testing.
- If all goes south and you actually need a new (reman) engine, you should be able to purchase a Mazda reman engine for ~$4.5-5k and either install it yourself or have a rotary specific shop install it for I'm guessing ~$1000 - $1500.

I‘ll try the ignition coils yes everything is put in the right location. It’s never ever given me any and start ups, bad hot start, I watch the temps and always warm it up before I shut it down, but it was sitting for roughly two weeks, maybe that could’ve flooded it? I’m not sure I feel like it my engine failed, alex seals etc. i would get some pretty noticble signs before it failed to start. Thinking it could possibly be my coils, hoping to get a compression tester soon. And yeah if all goes south I’ll save up and get a new engine. Not giving up that easy lol.

helo men what the **** happend to ur car finally?today i had another of that rotorengines in my shop misfiring ,i opened all 4 sparks carefully cleaned the carbon put back exactly in the rigt order as they were before and the car never started again at all.i got a shoot like pistol firing and then nothing .i am about to compression test tomorrow because i dont like the noise oft the cranking but not starting enfine.is it possible that a rotor inside has a big damage?how is it related do u thing to the spark plug cleaning and put back?
thanks for answering man.

Make sure you have installed spark plugs correctly, if you can get new wires, and make sure they’re on each plug to coil correctly and securely. If you can afford it buy some performance coils. You can find reasonably priced ones from $100-$250 on eBay and trust me it’s worth the price for engine longevity. Try it out and let me know how it goes.
